When my stuff gets here (hopefully Monday) I'll mount it up on my frankengun and we'll see how things turn out and I'll get some pics up. I have a 40-L on there, I hope it clears with the Armalite mount. |

You can see my pics in this thread. Armalite on top of GG&G Scout Rail. The Armalite by itself was too low for me. Also the Scout Rail allows more forward placement. |

Yeah, I just went to my local shop as well, and I ended up finding that the #17 was also the correct size. I wasn't able to find an objective that would work and I could swear that I tried a #3. According to their sizing chart, #3 is 1.340". I just measured my objective end, and it is 1.185". Still looks like the #2A would be best, since it is 1.181". I just measured the eye piece of mine and it's dimensions are 1.686". Maybe there's two different sizes of eyepieces due to the location of the illumination knob. (Side mounted vs. Ocular bell mounted.) |
I just looked and my Objective cap is a Bushwacker size 3- not Butler Creek. My shop did not have a Butler Creek that small. |

I found this mount at PKFirearms.com for $65 http://www.pkfirearms.com/images/item_images/item_314_1_lg.jpg |
I had a $50 simmons pro diamond in a larue mount before I bought my meopta. I think it's more than worth the $215. YMMV. |
| No doubt the Larue is a great mount, I have one for my aimpoint. But I am trying to save money on my optic and mount so I can finish out the rest of the gun the way I want. In all reality the Millet DMS may not be what i want so I don't want to spend another $215 on the mount too. I want to get the optic up and running first. If I like it then I can upgrade the mount. |
The Larue mount will last forever and is well worth the money. If you don't like the Millet scope, the mount will be good for a lot of other scopes. 30mm is pretty common, and the extended eye relief that the SPR gives would be useful for a lot of different scopes. Also, I'm willing to bet that if you needed a slightly different model to accommodate a different scope, Larue would be more than happy to exchange it for you. |
plenty of room for the scope between the rings... you have enough room to move it fore or aft as you see fit haven't dismounted/remounted yet ; i'll be interested to see if it returns to zero as well. i believe it will be fine though... as for the BUIS question, i have a GG&G slim style folded down underneath it just fine. but the with this mount positioned on the flat top upper, you can't get the scope forward enough to use the BUIS without removing the scope. hopefully pics sometime soon... sorry guys! |

2032s can be found at most pharmacies, etc. And The LaRue mount is the only way to go. [email protected] |
2032. It's probably the most common "coin cell" type battery out there. You can find them at Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, etc... but you'll pay a premium. I ordered a pile of them from an Ebay vendor and ended up paying about $.30 apiece. |
| I get mine through www.infinitelights.com/cr2032batteries.html... .60 a pop and free ship over $12. Not the best deal but I they are name brand batts. |

That's the same as the Model 1 Sales mount: www.model1sales.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=SMR001&storeid=1&image=mountring.gif&CFID=1014587&CFTOKEN=58846860 I haven't heard much feedback on them, but they appear to give about the same amount of forward eye relief as the Armalite mount. The DMS-1 sits pretty far back in the mount due to the long eyepiece body. I need a lot of eye relief, and I'm not sure these mounts would be enough. The only pics that look like enough for me are in the LaRue extended mount. |
It appears as though that RRA scout rail can get a scope further forward than the larue even. |

I have an RRA scout rail, and it's great for getting the scope out there - it's my favorite rail extender. Lots of flexibility, sturdy, and solid. If you swap optics a lot and can't afford a LaRue for each scope, it's good to use with QR rings. The main problem with it is there's no room for a BUIS if you want one. The LaRue or Armalite leave room on the flat top for a BUIS, if it'll fit under or behind the scope. The RRA is also fairly heavy, but I don't know how it compares to the LaRue for weight. Here's a pic of the RRA rail with a Leupold clone in Warne Maxima medium rings: |

I never understood why they don't leave room for a buis on most scout rails out there.... |
There is but one truth in the world and it is all yours. If you are not sure of it stay at home; but if you are sure don't look back and it will be your way.
I own a hacksaw... Actually the way the RRA rail is made I dont know why they don't just put a really simple BUIS in the back of the rail. Maybe I'll have to wescog something. |

The Hahn Precision scout rail is available in 3 configurations, one has a flip-up BUIS built in and one is machined short to allow another manufacturer's BUIS. Might want to look at them. My LaRue mount came today but I'm waiting on some other parts for this build. I should know soon at least if there's enough eye relief with the SPR though. |

Wahoo!!!!!!! Got my scope in today. Ordered from Midway 6/26/07 and it was on my door step tonight. Mounted it and don't have an eye relief problem with the scope at all. Glad I didn't have to spend the $$$ on a LaRue. Range report will come as soon as I can get out there. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c60/Dave1899/DMS-1_01.jpg |

I got mine in today as well as an armalite mount. The mount is too low for me to stuff my 40L under it so I am not sure what to do now as the 40L isn't something that can be taken off and put back on in the field easily. I like the scope though I was totally unprepared for how big it is. I'll wring it out either tonight or tomorrow. I might just see if I can find a thinner buis, I am sure there are some out there. ETA: a couple notes.... I like the glass, it is nice and clear. The 1x is not true 1x and I am not able to hold both eyes open no matter what distance. The controls are stiff as all get out, I hope they work in some, but if they don't that will be a bear and a half to deal with when it gets cold out. |

Is the height OK on it? |

Got mine mounted, I'm stoked. Thoughts: The LaRue SPR mount gives me perfect eye relief, with more room to spare. I shoot NTCH most of the time and this sits just at the right spot. No need for the SPR-E IMHO. The LaRue SPR mount also sits at the perfect height, I mounted a Matech rear sight under the scope and it clears with just enough room to spare. I LOVE THE SCOPE. With the magnification at "1", there's obviously a lot of my fixed front sight in view. That was expected, but the front sight "wanders" a lot as I move my head. It acts a lot different than a regular nonmagnified optic (aimpoint, eotech, etc) which normally gives me a stationary view of the front sight, which reinforces my plan of using a longer freefloating forend and a flip-up front sight instead of keeping the fixed sight. I'm waiting on shipment of a DD 9.0 and a Troy front sight so this is a nonissue for me but I figured I'd mention it. The front sight does pretty much disappear from 2 power on up. I'll take some real pics once I get my freefloat setup done, here's some phone pics for now: ![]() |

Here's mine.....received from Midway on 6/28. Had a few other things to buy and used a $30 off coupon. My BUIS is an Armalite carry handle and detachable front site post that came with the rifle. It also came with a 1" Armalite mount. Oh well, I'll find something to do with it.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x285/checkmARk_01/IMG_0398.jpg Armalite M15A4C RRA Scout Rail - from Steve at Adco Burris Medium XTR rings - from Midway Yes....my pool table is OD |
Back the diopter ring out two turns and see how it looks. I had the same issue but adjusting the diopter ring made a lot of difference for me. |

I am not having any problems with the eye relief so far. I have not gone shooting yet, but so far the scope seems pretty forgiving. It does seem a bit on the low side for me, I am resting right on my cheekbone to look through it.
No love for me, but my eyes are a little off I think due to getting lasered and I have not tried out outside as of yet to see if there is a difference further out. |

nice setup checkmark. Love the RRA Scout Rail. |

Have you compared that combination to another optics mount or the iron sights? I have the RRA rail and couldn't decide on which height rings to get. |

It's the only 30 mm setup that I have, so I haven't compared it to anything else. I did put the detachable front sight on to have a peak. It is a gas block mounted Armalite fixed sight. The top of the sight post is well below the scope dot with this setup. At 1x, this setup is probably lower than a lower 1/3 co-witness - probably more like a lower 1/4. I should also point out that IMHO, any type of co-witness is pretty much useless with this scope as the front sight is blurred at best. It disappears as the power goes up. I did take a few measurements that might help, though. Mine is a 2nd gen model. RRA Scout rail - adds 0.665" (about 17 mm) Burris Med XTR Rings - adds 0.5" (about 12.5 mm) Scope Tube - 1.182" (30 mm) Solid Ocular portion - 1.63" Soft Ocular Eyepiece - 1.60" So, this setup puts the center of the scope at about 1.75" (44.5 mm)above the top of my rail. The RRA rail is a little deceiving since it adds height to the entire receiver rail. A low mount might be better on the scout, but to me it would look a little cramped. It was mostly a SWAG when I ordered the parts, but I thought the scout rail added 0.5", which from what I have read elsewhere, would have been right for a lower 1/3 co-witness at 1x. I ended up with a little more than that. It's OK since I took the sight off after taking 1 look at it through the scope. It was mostly a curiosity to me. Post pics when you get it set up! |
| I want to mount mine on my FAL with DSA scope mount. Any recommendation on how I should proceed? Mounting direct to the rail with low rings is a possibility, but I don't know if that will give me enough eye relief. I would love a LaRue but it might be too high on the FAL? |
|
Went shooting. I did not goto a real range, just the local shooting hole and I was not able to do much more than roughly dial in the sight. It is pretty easy to adjust, no digging out a screwdriver or a quarter to turn the dials, and I like using the reticle. I do not know if I'll be using the illumination all that much, it was hardly noticeable in sunlight, and it is hard to use it like an Eotech or aimpoint with both eyes open. It made plinking stuff at 100 yards or so fun and easy though. I need to get to a real range and dial it in proper on paper, but I may be doing some part swapping with another gun in the mean time so I am not all worried about trying to get it perfectly dialed in right now. |

I'm using mine on a FAL tomorrow in our local Inependance Day match. Eye relief is not a problem on a FAL, if you need to push it foreward there is plenty of room on a DSA rail.. Low rings work fine except that for me the eye relief sets it right up againt the rear sight so you can use a flip-up cover and you have to notch other style caps around the sight. Right now I have it mounted on low rings which are atached to a YHM scout rail but it's really too high, I just don't have enough time to figure out another way to mount it and I'm using stuff I had laying around the house. After this match I'll try to find another solution. |

You'll really need lower rings with a FAL IMO. I'm planning on putting one of these on a FAL at some point, and I'm thinking I will need to get one of the Brit fold down rear sights to use with it. |

Why didn't I think of that. Does DSA have them? |

I hope they do, or that I can find a couple of them somewhere. |

What kind of rings do you like? I don't know anything about rings. Something removable?
|
I don't see them, unless you are talking about the tall ones which won't work with a metric front sight. |
