So is this a generation 4 I have with the spare battery on the right and the new fungus added?

ETA- Are we keeping track of the serial numbers with fungus? Mine is 08072xx and its got some specks but nothing at all like that nebula on page 71. I'll keep mine, I love it.

Well I got my TRS-1 in the mail today....it has the fungus...atleast thats what im guessing. if i turn the illumination all the way up, lense cap closed, and put my eye up against the eye piece, i can see something similar to whats on 71...looks like hard water stains.

no ammonia smell, and clarity is good otherwise, lookin at a target at 100 yds, full zoom, sunshade on, in the evening, and it looks just the same with naked eye, as through the scope.

the above stated conditions are the only way i see anything...and its the only scope ive owned, so i dont know if that isnt normal.

basically...if i had never read this thread, I would have never noticed anything.

I love the mount ... it puts the scope clear of the delta ring, handguard and charging handle, and eye relief is perfect for me with a near-NTCH cheek weld.

This picture pushed me over the edge - ordered the combo today for my Colt 6920.

Hope it's high enough for the donut to float above the front sight.

Has anyone purchased one recently from SWFA with Fungus???  I really would like to get one of the SSALT mount DMS scopes for my 6.8 to use this hunting season, but do not want the fungus.

Just received one from them about a week ago...no fungus detected.  After reading this thread, I look very hard for it.  I found the scope to be very clear.

I just received my DMS-1 and SSALT combo from SWFA Monday 10.05.09 . It was crystal clear, no fungus. But it did have a 1 MOA dot in the lower left quadrant. I think it is a speck from the paint they used to make the reticle. I called SWFA and they sent me a replacement within 2 days (10.07.09) and a return shipping label. I was never without a scope, these guys are awesome.

My very humble and honest opinion:

In the 2 days wait for the replacement, I evaluated the lens, weight, length, mounting height, POV, target acquisition speed, pretty much everything I could to see if I actually wanted to keep the scope. What i came up with is I would buy 2 in a heartbeat.

It's not as quick as my red dot because you have to have a good, consistent cheek-weld to reduce parallax. That would be my only negative. (My red dot won't get me out to 200yds accurately either). Soooo, I think you will be extremely happy with it if you don't get the one with fungus ( which i think SWFA does not have).

Got a new mount for my DMS-1 so figured I'd share.

Bobro extended optics mount.  I can still move the mount forward 3 notches from where it is in the pic.  This will have the front of the mount overhanging the upper reciever by 1/2", but still allows for full locking.  For me shooting NTCH, its current position is perfect.

If you notice, the scope is not perfectly centered in the mount, this is due to clearance issues with the power throw lever I run for adjusting the magnification easier.  I pushed the scope forward untill there was about 1/16" clearance between the throw lever and mount.

Clearance between the magnification adjustment ring and mount is close, but looks like it'll clear if you are not using a lever.

Overall, this mount is fantastic, very solid and easy to operate one handed.  It also self adjusts so you'll never have to mess with it.  You can also change which side the throw lever is on as well as which direction it opens.

In case anyone asks, the throw lever for magnification came from here...

We've sold over 1100 of these scopes since the beginning of the year and have only had 31 returns. Those were mainly towards the beginning of the year when the quality control was less than what it is now. Granted there are a few that sneak through the cracks but this last shipment we received have been looking perfect.

Got mine yesterday - the SSALT combo for my Colt 6920.  So far, so good, although the Bushnell Trophy 1-4x24 they sell for $50 less has me regretting a bit.  They said they sell many more Millets than the Bushnell Trophy - but couldn't say which scope's optical quality was better.  So, if you believe a Bushnell must be better than a Millet, you can save some cash and buy the SSALT separately.

Received my DMS and SSALT mount last week from SWFA.  No sign of fungus.  Installed on my AR and love the scope.  The SSALT mount appears to be a very good value for the cost.  SWFA was a fast shipper as well, the scope was shipped the same day as ordered.  I look forward to sighting in the DMS and taking the 6.8 AR hunting.

Anybody have a pic of this on an AR with a front sight post? I looked through about 50 pages and think I only saw one. I want to see what it looks like because I am  thinking about getting one for some 3 gun comps. Please place a pic of over all view of rifle, then a close up of the scope and base on the AR, then on loooking through the optic at the lowest setting and then the highest setting.

Thanks!!!

Clearance for the cat tails on the LT-139 & LT-104 is just fine with this scope, I've used both on my own rifle with a DMS-1.

The clearance required between the mount and the zoom ring for the Millett is 0.250".

I used my Millet DMS-1/SSALT combo at the range last weekend at 50, 75, and 100 yds against NRA HPR targets.  I've got 54 year-old eyes.

I never took the magnification off the maximum 4x.

Should I return the scope and use the money towards a 3x, 3.5x or 4x fixed mag scope?

Finally got some range time this weekend (only 30 mins at the 25 yd range ). Well it turned out to be enough, I dialed it in and got 1" groupings right on the X. Something i could never do with my Bushnell Trophy red dot.  I kept my targets and brought them to work to show my buddies....They weren't as excited as i was.  me

sidenote:
Here is a tip I learned for sighting your scope with about 3 rounds. Don't read if you get bored easily:

The best way (i've learned) is to get a benchrest or anything to get your rifle stationary. Aim at the center of the target (of course) and let one fly. Where ever the round lands on the target, place your cross-hairs on that spot and have someone turn your clicks for you until it is centered on target while you steady your aim at the hole (of course you have to be on paper first). Your next shot should be close to or on center.

I used this technique and my 2nd round was touching the x.  Anyway, I'm sure some of you know this trick and probably think I'm stupid for posting but no one ever told me this before for this weekend and I'm  glad they did. Hope it's useful.

PS: This has got to be the longest thread in history.

I think you said that backwerds. After you shoot, you put your corsshairs where you aimed, POA, the bullseye, then move your crosshairs to the bullet hole, POI, while keeping the rifle steady.  ETA: which will usually be backwards than what the turrets say, most turrets move the POI, but whatever I am confusing myself now.

If you put if you do it like you said, it will make you further away.

Am I right?

Point your index fingers at something but six inches apart, left one represents POA, bullseye,,, right one represents POI, bullet hole. you want your POA to be POI, so you move your POA to your POI while keeping the rifle in one spot.

I don't know if I am explaining that right but its whatever, its not hard to sight in a rifle.

No, you shoot, the re-center your crosshairs (same point of aim as first shot) and move to actual bullet impact... Basically sets you up to repeat the first shot then lets you adjust.

I must digress, you are right.
The person explained it to me correctly and I did the opposite. I laser bore-sighted before going to the range and was only 2 inches off to the left of center to start with. He must have clicked the opposite direction from what i thought. Plus I moved a little while he was clicking so couldn't see the cross-hairs movement  perfectly. Makes sense though. tanx.

Yep pretty much the same principle as laser bore sighting.  Align the crosshair where the red dot is and it should get you close to where you want to be.

Can you say "parallax?"  This is the most eye-relief-sensitive scope I've ever owned.  It has a 3.5" eye relief listed in the specs, but at 3.4" or 3.6" I'm getting parallax.  I'm guessing it's the small objective lens that causes the problem, but I'm no expert.  The scope is great if everything is dialed in just right, but what if I'm wearing a coat?  A vest?  Any change in length of pull means stretching out your neck to get a decent sight picture.

I'm not passing judgment on the DMS-1 quite yet.  I'm sure it will grow on me, and the illuminated reticule compensates quite a bit for the parallax issue since I can still see the doughnut quickly with both eyes open.

how far can you stick your finger into the objective end of the Millet DMS-1? I can stick my pinky finger in almost half way, I was just wondering because it looks like I may be missing some shit. I can see a bunch of threads like maybe another lens should be screwed in there. I looked through almost all the pages and didn't see a good picture that would help me.  And if it is supposed to be like that, why didn't they make the tube shorter and lighter?

Probably the same as with the Meopta. It makes the Dot easier to see in daylight. The Meopta is very long past the objective lens.

Try it at 50'. You'll like the ability to dial down to 1x. If all you do is bench shoot it wont matter. If you try and use it  at 4x at 10mtrs on multiple targets, you'll see what I mean.

Well I didn't know if those responses were just saying that because thats what they thought or they were saying thier scopes were the same way. I tend to overreact a little bit about new products because it seems like when I don't, I end up getting screwed with a lemon. Err... that sounded wrong, I meant I get a lemon, a product that is bad. Since there is nothing wrong with it, off to the range!!! Thanks for the reply.

I tend to overreact a little bit about new products because it seems like when I don't, I end up getting screwed with a lemon. Err... that sounded wrong, I meant I get a lemon, a product that is bad. Since there is nothing wrong with it, off to the range!!! Thanks for the reply.

no problem. I went back and looked at our responses and I guess we were a little vague.

Should I return the scope and use the money towards a 3x, 3.5x or 4x fixed mag scope?

Try it at 50'. You'll like the ability to dial down to 1x. If all you do is bench shoot it wont matter. If you try and use it  at 4x at 10mtrs on multiple targets, you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for the response.

Thanks MudBug.

As predicted, the scope is growing on me.  The 1X eye relief sensitivity isn't that bad.  Once the comb and length of pull are set, it's pretty quick on target.
