MK 318 mod 0, 5.56x45. Same as Federal T556TNB1 62g2 OTM. Optimized for a 14 inch barrel, has a copper base and a small nonbonded lead core in ogive section of bullet. Dark green sealant.

The loaded MK318 Mod 0 cartridge has a nominal OAL of 2.20". The projectile does not have a cannelure per se, but the case mouth is crimped into the top relief band. The cartridge is sealed at the case mouth, however not with the asphalt sealant typically found on military ammunition. The primers are sealed and crimped. The casehead is stamped "FC 10". Danke wolfgang. Notice how thin the jacket is at the groove next to the lead core.
Thats where it usually fragments after barrier penetration,soft targets. What is left is the solid copper slug on the bottom still going after the front defeats the barrier. The lead portion sits in a cup on top of the solid copper slug. |
