PSA M4A1 will have the correct font, markings and "W" SN prefix, just no pony logo. Only if you take a 80% can you get all the correct markings. |

Either way it's close enough. I have a few clones I've done on 80% lowers and I don't really want to do it anymore. |

I went down this rabbit hole and ended up just getting a SOCOM lower because I knew a PSA wouldn't scratch the itch. Plus it came with all the cool clone parts you see guys trying to scalp on Gunbroker and Tacswap. |

I think i have decided to sell my Block II. I have too many 5.55 ar15 and never reach for this. Between my Block 1, Mk12 mod 0, mk12 mod 1, and my 14.5 ris iii done up like my block ii, this never gets any use. That being said, do you think it's best to part it out or sell as a whole? Upper was built with fn socom barrel, fn upper and has geissele ach charging handle and kac sights. Lower was built off a psa stripped m4a1 lower with ssa-e trigger and either fn or colt lower parts. Has cloud defensive reign 3 light and atacr with badger 1.7 mount. Attached File |

I assume government profile. Tracking that barrels get replaced over time so it doesn’t really matter. |

Tracking that barrels get replaced over time so it doesn’t really matter. In 2010 most would have reused the SOCOM FSB barrel as that was one the Block I before rebuild. Both are correct and I used to give the shooter his choice IF I had both barrels on hand. SOCOM barrels just allow longer full auto firing before cook offs (2-3 mags) but take longer to cool down and are heavier. Really your choice and preference. |

Thanks CD, I rarely see SOCOM barrels that date range for some reason on the market. See plenty of gov profile. I may not be looking hard enough potentially. But I think gov profile will fit the bill for the build. The barrel I have looks like NOS so it has plenty of life in it still. Want to be able to use it as well. Final note, I also have a 2008 gov profile barrel on hand. Would that be more correct or was that before the SOPMOD program block II? This is getting into the fine ass details at this point. I assume you would use whatever barrel was o/h to make the upper regardless. |

I've got NIW M134 minigun barrels from 1968! Got newer 2005 barrels too. Attached File |

Technically, the Phased Replacements program began back in 2003 when the Aimpoint CompM2 and Surefire M952 replaced the Trijicon Reflex and Insight VLI, but the official beginnings of the Block II came with the addition of the Eotech 551 and plans for the RIS II, BIS II, VBL III, and PVS-17 PIP to the Phased Replacements program. (Sadly I cannot find the 2004 SOPMOD overview presentation online, if anyone has that and the 2002 slideshow I'd be very grateful) By 2005, they had settled on some of the accessories they wanted in the Block II kit itself, which were the Trijicon ACOG with a piggybacked Docter red dot, Elcan Specter, Insight ATPIAL, Insight CNVD-T, and Litton CNVD-I2. 2005 would be the earliest some of these accessories would have potentially made their way into combat use. https://i.imgur.com/f11Pf0D.png By 2006 they had finalized most of the Block II kit. They'd decided to go with the Elcan Specter over the Trijicon ACOG ECOS for the official package, but both were still offered at the time. The new Eotech 553 replaced the 551 in the Phased Replacements suite and the Insight M3X and M6X lights won the VBL III contract. The RIS II and BIS II trials had finished initial testing and were entering the procurement phase as the three RIS II entrants (A.R.M.S., Knight's Armament, and Daniel Defense) and two BIS II entrants (A.R.M.S. and Knight's Armament) had all passed the qualification portion of the trials and were now moving on to final selection. The ATPIAL and two clip-on devices were approved for formal use as well and were starting to be issued out to units by this time. https://i.imgur.com/rjJl2jL.png Product selection was complete by 2007 and the Block II package formally entered service. The only real difference was that Daniel Defense won the RIS II contract and the BIS II competition was cancelled for financial reasons. By this point the DD RIS II was still the Mark 1 Mod 0 version with the large M203 screws, the modern version would come in 2008. https://i.imgur.com/Jn2Gob8.png So, very long story short, yes a 2008 barrel is appropriate for a Block II Thanks for the history lesson. I’ve seen these presentations before but it’s always nice to get a refresher. |
