I have seen a few of these running around the sandbox with the newer SU-231A (Eotech XPS 3-0 in FDE as far as I can tell...) I don't have any pictures of one yet but I will try to get some next time I see one!

Now don't go searching the archives for the SAM-R and SDM-R threads

They should sticky all these pic threads somewhere..

No kidding.  I started my quest after spending time on the Mk18 thread.  I had to go the 16" route because of Washington's unfriendly NFA laws.  But basically, those jerks over on that thread forced me, at gunpoint, to go buy a brand new 6920 and all the accessories to make it into a SOPMOD Block II rifle.  I finished it right in time for this thread to start

Since I'm trying to buy a house, I am staying away from the other picture threads.

If only I didn't love my T1 so much I sold my eotech and haven't looked back. I guess it'll just count as a P.O'd optic

I am really thinking of doing the same thing.

The only thing that''s holding me back is that the block II rifles seem nose heavy to me. I am currently running a 6920 upper with dd omega rail and I really like the way it handles.

If I go for a block II setup I'd be doing a 14.5"  socom weight barrel with perm'ed aac 51 tooth black out and the dd ris II rail. Anyone have any weight differences or experience with a setups similar to either of these? If so, I'd like to hear what you think.

I had a DD drop in carbine rail on my 6920 for a few months until I decided to take the plunge on the RIS II.  Glad I did.  I just use the standard 16" barrel though.  I think it balances great, but most of my life growing up I shot my dad's Colt R6601 with a 20" HBAR, so nothing is nose heavy to me.  My Block II clone with rail, Surefire M300A, front grip, Troy sights, and SU-231 hanging off of it weighs 8 ounces less than that plain jane A2 style R6601.

I don't have a RIS II, but a RAS, and was able to counter balance it with batteries in the SOPMOD stock. Didn't seem too overly unbalanced or too heavy.

I have a ris II rail on the way today. Is a special wrench required to install the rail?

I have an ar wrench that will work with a regular barrel nut and what I call a regular quad rail nut that has the circle holes all the way around. Will this same wrench install the ris II rail? If not, where can I find the correct wrench?

It's pretty damn funny how that works.  I forget which page it was on, but somebody commented how the various Mk12 venders' sales must have shot through the roof simply because of that thread.

Now here's one that'll make your head hurt.

Try it sometime, it works.  You're not gonna get a headshot at 100 yards, but you could hit paper if you index your gun the same way every time you hold it.

But still, pretty funny.

The twins...  The color dichotomy is not intentional, it just happened to fall that way but I did set them up to be as similar in function and use as possible.  The black VLTOR stock and EOtech 512 were at home on the 6920 for a while until I got the newer style tan stock and the 553.  I haven't made up my mind if I want to give the old stock the rattle can treatment to match, the factory stock was on it when I got the urge to try spray painting.  I'll get the mags painted eventually for sure though.

Does anyone know where to get the Insight Tan Light with the push button in the back that would be appropriate for this clone?

I actually really like that setup for what it is! It's very light and the LD01 puts out ALOT of light for a single AA light.

When I have the cash I will upgrade to a .mil FDE light

Did any of these newer rifles with the DD handguards use a cut down FSB instead of a low-profile gas block?

Don't you big eye face me.

Lol rly? When I thought about it in my head it didn't seem like it, then again I am the worst estimator in the world. The rails are really thin and even a low pro gas block just barely fits between them....

But ok if y'all say so

Correct buis for a clone is the FDE or 'taupe' KAC front non micro sight and an matech rear

The more photos I see of these rifles in the field, the less I see them with back-up irons.
