I think its good to see the dedicated threads. I have asked a couple of questions in the block II thread about block I stuff and get no response. Its good to have information flowing on the individual rifles where the info wont get all jumbled up

Idon't know why we don't convert our existing Block II thread to all SOPMOD/SOCOM thread, (ie block 1, PR, 2).

I agree,  I was just thinking about that.

Combine it with the ARFSOC thread too.
It would basically be an all inclusive SOPMOD/SF/MIL picture thread with clones of only those guns.
One requirement could be that the rail system, accessories, and optics must have an NSN associated with them to qualify for the picture thread.

I don't think there's any need or reason to go around combining all of these threads and starting new ones. Just allow Block I clones into the Block II thread,

This, AFSOC does their own thing compared to other units, though they have been seen in the Block II / CQBR thread.

Here's my contribution:

Still need to install a SOCOM barrel, but I'm waiting to get the NT4 mount perm'd with spacer so I don't have to worry about making another SBR.

I noticed in the OP that the SOPMOD stock was not listed as a block I component (only CAR and M4 stock)  Is this just an oversight, or does placing a SOPMOD stock on it make it a Block 1.5?

Can I protest ever so briefly and request that "M-4" be changed to "M4" without the hyphen?  It's going to bug me from now until the end of time...

Also, the RO921HB profile barrel was introduced around 2000 - most post-2000 and most War on Terror M4A1s would all have the "SOCOM" profile barrel.

Changed to M4 just for you

The SOPMOD not being listed on the Block I was a simple oversight on my part, I apologize for that! I also added a little more barrel info per Augee's guidance. Now we just need lots more pictures!

Patiently waiting for the Army dedicated thread, the USMC dedicated thread, the USAF dedicated thread, the Navy dedicated thread, the SWAT dedicated thread, etc.

We wouldn't have so many of these threads if the same people didn't post the same pics of the same rifles over and over and over again. Every time someone takes new pics, every thread has to be updated and bumped, and its hardly ever for something new. Its usually the same people jerking each other off over the same things. Constantly.

And if you wants rules for a thread, NO AIRSOFT PARTS ON YOUR RIFLES!!

Wish I could afford a tax stamp to slap on a M4 upper 14.5 with A2 flash hider

Mine wouldnt count since its  a 14.5 +phantom and I use a larue mount for my aimpoint

Other than that I have  everything else

What was the point in posting all those pics of not one fuckin' rifle that belongs here?

SOPMOD Block I/1.5.

The guys in Block II thread can dikks, so we can too!

Block I .

Just got this upper back from ADCO.

This rifle is 100% Colt, KAC and Trijicon.  Well the flash hider came from BCM.

I feel the same way.  The Block II just became a clunky, porky pig of a carbine and is great in a semi-precision role but for what a carbine is for...  IMO the Block I shines.

When did the transition from the CAR stock to the SOPMOD stock take place?

There was not any "transition" per se that I am aware of.  It is just an option that is available.

The production transition from the CAR-style stock to the newer M4-style stock occurred around 2002.

I believe that the "enhanced M4 buttstock" was introduced somewhere around 2003-ish, though I'm not 100% certain on the date.  They were designed at Crane based on the old Colt ACR stock before being contracted out.

So it was never officially adopted for the Block I program?

It's "official," and was designed by NSWC-Crane, one of the few "recce" pictures has a prototype version, but I don't think that there was a "transition" between the two where it was ever said "this stock will be replaced by this stock" the way you would say "the AN/PEQ-2 and AN/PEQ-5 components will now be replaced by the LA-5/PEQ component."  It's just an option.

The conventional side is about the same - SOPMOD stocks are available and issued and can be used if desired, but there's not a "transition" per se.

What Block if any does the 12" rifle version of the KAC RAS fall into?
Link Posted: 4/17/2013 1:05:18 PM EDT

The 12" KAC RAS Free Float was for the Mk12 Mod1 Rifle and the USMC's SAM-R rifle, neither of which are part of the M4 SOPMOD Program.

What sling would have been issued for the M4 style stock? Sopmod stock?

I love my Mamba but it doesn't ride well on the Sopmod.....

There was an official sling as part of the block 1, complete with sling attachment for the KAC RAS, but it was horrible. Most were home made or from standard USGI M4 slings.

TWO ECLANS!! NICE!! I wish I could find a guy out here in central Florida who's got one so I can at least check it out before I shell out $$$$$. I'm running a TA01-NSN w/ Docter (I know its not part of the SOPMOD program, but I like it!!) and I just can't on a whim buy it without seeing it first. I'm in the process of building a block I to match my Block II & Mk18, I'll post pics soon. NT4 still waiting on ATF

Actually, I believe it IS part of the SOPMOD program.  At least, in the beginning, they were using the TA01NSN with a J-point MRD on top, which, as I understand it, was later changed to the Docter.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The MRD was a PIP for the 4x DOS.  Most commonly it was the JPoint with the JP winged mount, but some Docters were used as well.

There was not an "official" MRD until the MRDS.
