I usually use Palmetto kits as they are decent priced, decent quality, and don’t skimp on materials (6x vs 7x aluminum etc). Is there anything of compatible quality for a better price, or at PSA offerings about as good as it gets for a sub 100$ lower build kit. I’m looking to get a few and cost is kind of important, but I also don’t want foreign stuff or stuff made with the wrong materials. |
| I buy PSA as well as pin kits and springs kits from KAK. I do that because I prefer to choose my trigger, safety, grip, etc. |

I have bought a lot of low cost parts just to see what they were like. Not that I am a big fan of PSA's parts but I would stick to their around 80 dollar kit. Things I have received over the years from many places when dropping into low cost mode: Stocks with- aluminum sling swivel, non standard screw thread on the swivel, the stock release latches lock pin nut and pin having nonstandard methods of attachment, and maybe fitment on the tube being lose or tight. One stock I remember the plastic cutout for the swivel on the stock didn't even match the swivel and it sat proud of the recess for it wedged on top of the slot pulled tight by the screw. Buffer tubes on collapsible stocks of mystery metal and instead of being flat at the inside bottom having a large diameter angle cut going down to the drain hole. Problem really being it was even larger in width at the top of the angle cut than the hole is allowed to be in the bottom of an A2 stock tube so the buffer bumper didn't really have much support hitting the bottom of the tube. Buffers made of who know what aluminum and a hard plastic like bumper. Also, only one long weight in some instead of the three. Music wire buffer springs. Buffer springs without the first coil closed so it would stay on the buffer when installed. Lowers parts kits with grips that had over sized/width slots for the tang they mount to on the lower. Odd grips made smaller than normal ones. Grips where the angle down in them was wrong and would not fit some lower receivers. Grips that were not 90 degrees and could rock back and forth on the lower were they didn't contact both surfaces on the lower. Kits with MIM made disconnectors, hammer, triggers, selectors, mag catches, bolt catches, and magazine catch buttons. Steel instead of aluminum match catch buttons. Coil count off on springs sometimes as well as material not the same as mil spec ones. The always mystery of what will the grip screw look like. Plastic instead of aluminum trigger guards. |
