I have a picture of a build I want to try but before I go for it, Id really appreciate any input from the pistol gurus that might save me grief or unnecessary expenditure. The biggest question is the barrel. The build will be a Colt 601 themed retro pistol, using a raw slabside lower and one of the raw mayhem machine uppers. Im going for an almost totally raw weathered and buffed look. If I cant find 4" triangle handguards I will make them or have some made. The current idea that I am chasing involves turning down a 16" pistol gas 300blk barrel (or maybe a 5.56) to a 601 pencil profile forward of the FSB and chopping it to roughly 11.5" total length so that it can take a bayonet. Anyone ever turned a 300blk barrel down to .560-ish OD? Anyone know of a 12+ inch pistol gas 5.56 barrel? ETA: found one answer here regarding POI change and the need for a heavier barrel to support a suppressor Here May just need to cut a 20" 5.56 barrel down and totally reprofile it |

A couple of rubber ducks. The upper one had a vp 12 barrel with a cast fsb that I attempted to salvage. The barrel was unfortunately cut off through the chamber area and had a 5/16 rebar welded to the underside of it. I salvaged the FSB, added a clamp on fsb and reassembled it as this thing. This configuration barrel is what I want to have on my next pistol build, still debating 300blk or 5.56.  " />
