Looking for a light to put on my DD upper. Has a fixed A2 front sight post, and a m-lok compatible fore-end. Intended use would be HD / all-around gun. Last time I looked into lights, the Modlight PLHv1 was the go-to, but that was a couple years ago. This still the one to beat? Or has there been improvements in the SF offerings? Was thinking about mounting it in an M-lok slot at the 1:30 setting (45 degrees right of vertical), and a center-mounted button on top of the handguard behind the front sight post. Something like the Unity AXON SL. Thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks! |

I like the Arisaka 18350 bodies, paired with the head of your choice and the unity gascap rear end. Rechargeable batteries are great for the price these days and that set up would be plenty bright for inside the home and outside. Modlite plhv2 Surefire 640 turbo Streamlight protac 2.0 railmount variant (there's 2) Arisaka 18650 series body build. Streamlight protac railmount hl-x variant (there's 2) Arisaka 600 series body (cr123 only) with modlite led-f head build Surefire 640 dual fuel (non turbo) Edit to add, I've been perfectly happy with my streamlight protac railmount hl-x lights. I prefer clicky tailcaps and appreciate the lack of performance disparity between types of batteries used (either 18650 or cr123). If you want a pressure pad/switch, but like the other features, i'd look at the hl-x pro version with the improved jack cap, the older seperate dedicated switch head has been a cause of frustration in the past. |

Dual fuel is over rated as hell and 100% pointless if you run the 18350 body. If you want some flood PLHV2. If you want throw, Surefire Turbo. Second choice is OKW. The Surefire Pro hinge mount, specifically the picatinny mount over the MLOK will save weight and get the light tucked in tighter than any Arisaka mount too. Alas I feel this excellent insight and advice will be overlooked by "MLOK is better" and "Must Dual Fuel" mouth breathers LOL. |
