The point is, is that your gun is not exactly lightweight when compared to the rest of the guns in this thread. The only thing it has going for it is less weight with regard to the barrel. A short barrel rifle that weighs "7.5 lbs" is a HEAVY gun. What parts did you use that made your gun lightweight? The only thing I see is a shorter barrel. Instead of parts that cut weight, there are aftermarket parts that are inherently heavy.

In a thread dedicated to barrels less than 14.5" (which this thread isn't), your gun would not be classified as "lightweight" either.

Further, if you look in this thread at the other pictures, you can visually see what it means to be lightweight. There is no set definition, but there are certain things that do and do not lend to a rifle being considered lightweight. As mentioned above, if your gun had an extra couple inches of barrel, there would be no argument.

But since you feel that your gun is "lightweight" and nothing anyone says will convince you otherwise, great. Welcome to the thread

See below for an example of what a "lightweight" gun with similar sized barrel as yours should aspire to be:

Mine isn't too lightweight, and my wife always rests it on the bench by the magazine when she shoots it. Solution? Get both! I built her an AR of her own.

Gunsmoke lower
Stag? LPK
ACE ARFX-E entry stock, standard CAR buffer system
Hogue grip (she picked it out of my pile)

Upper receiver brand ?? with key forge mark
BCG is one of the ones that were on sale for 99$ a while back
Armalite 16" midlength barrel reprofiled to pencil weight
MOE midlength HG's
Gas block was previously an aluminum FSB but I messed it up, so I put it on the mill and turned it into a gas block only
YHM 5M2 brake, so she can stab zombies, and to make it softer to shoot
Optic: I have an older PA micro green dot that I got on the EE (bad light sensor) that I've been too lazy to return even though they said I could. That's going to be her optic, or a regular PA micro dot.

Right now it weighs 6.6 lbs with a loaded 20rd PMAG according to the bathroom scale.  Plans for the future? Prototype a BCG out of 6061 stock, then hopefully make a 7075 BCG with adjustable gas block. Maybe a Clark's CF tube HG, and slickside 9mm upper receiver if I can convince her.

I think I posted this in the KISS thread a while back, but this is my fav carbine, and fairly light too.

It has one of the CMMG 14.7" LW w/perm FH barrels.  Shoots well and is nice and light.

I deem it to be anything under 6lbs unloaded for a ~14.5", 6.5lbs for ~20" or 5.5 for a ~10".

According to Wiki, an M16 weighs 7.18 pounds empty.  I think, by that measure, everyone can agree that anything weighing more can't be considered "lightweight".  I'd say that anything up to 7 pounds (unloaded) falls into the "lightweight" category (and yes, I'm aware that the OP's rifle weigh over 7 pounds).

Anyway, here's the pic. Weight is currently 4 lbs 4.2 oz––and I have $650 into her.

Yeah, my AR is 6lbs 2oz. unloaded with no flashlight and aimpoint––and that's with a 16" barrel.

It is light, but not quite light enough to brag on yet.

Once I get my T-1 and pencil barrel I will be in here with a pic!

Nice rifle.

Not a critique but just a question.  Why did you go w/ Rail + LaRue Surefire mount instead of just an IWC Mount-n-slot Scout Mount ($40, lightweight, built like a tank).  It can also push the light more forward if you desire.

Please take into consideration what the rifle/carbine is equipped with.  If someone would like to start an ultra lightweight thread that showcases their lightweight BCG's, carbon fiber forearms, etc., please do so.  I started this thread for carbine course/SHTF/duty capable lightweight guns.  I assure you that an M16 that is currently deployed with our troops that includes a rail, optic, light. etc., does not weigh 7.18 lbs. empty.  Just sayin'....

Talking about the rifles here, not about the stuff you add onto them. Not talking about bullet weight, mag weight, light weight, optic weight... ect. Just rifles. Factoring in the rest defeats the point of it all, and eliminates any baseline that's actually useful. I can take the flashlights and aimpoint off my rifle and get it to 6lbs 2oz. Trouble is, as soon as it's off the scale, the lights and aimpoint go right back on.

TO ME... a lightweight build includes all those things and still comes in ~6ish pounds dry.

Really?  I'm going to have to disagree with you on that.  I would never knowingly take a rifle somewhere there would be trouble without at least a fully loaded magazine, and preferably a good optic, light and sling as well.  I could care less how someone got their rifle to 5 lbs. if the thing didn't have sights and wasn't loaded.  At that point I would be wanting a heavier club, because that's all you would have.  As I have said, If you don't like the guns in this thread, go start a new one with your own rules.  At any rate, if you do not have any pics to share, please refrain from posting.  This is a pic thread, not a discussion thread....

The reason I don't include mag weight into my ARs is that they are not something that is the same every time nor consistently a part of the rifle. Each mag may be different. USGI vs PMags vs a Surefire 60 round mag...

It would be like you and your buddy weighing your motorcycles to see who's is lightest while you are both on the bike... You weight 185, he weighs 350...

That is beautiful!

What barrel is on it?  And also, can you attach normal grips and such to the NSR rail?  I LOVE its looks and more importantly its weight so I hope so..

That's a Knights Armament SR-15 mod 1 my friend!

It has been a very long day for me to confuse the KAC and NSR rails... I must go to bed.

Still beautiful either way lol.

I didnt set out for lightweight specifically, just ended up pretty light. ~7.2lbs.

If it gets beat up anymore I might just work up the testicular fortitude to camo it

My first AR build, just finished it tonight.  Always shot bolt guns with the exception of my 10-22, but went shooting with a friend thats a LEO and he let me put a few rounds through his AR, and well, needless to say wanted to build my own after...  6.7 lbs.  Waiting on my DD sights...
