| Not to be a snob, but I don't think M4 profile barrels qualify as "light weight". To me light weight refers to light weight barrel aka pencil profiles. But I guess whatever. |

Im sure someone may shed more light on your question. the mil spec bolt carrier weighs 9.6oz, the JP LMOS bolt carrier is 5.3oz & the standard rifle length buffer is 5.5oz, the JP LMOS rifle buffer is 3oz so doing that swap would lower your weight by 6.8oz and it would have alot less kick going back and forth, the only thing is that im not sure if it would run correctly with a midlength gas system, runs great on my carbine gas. you could try going with an adjustable front site like the one you have ? im going to be dropping my Eotech 511 and hooking up a front and rear Magpul MBUS and im hoping itll be under 5lbs in the high 4s, I gotta put a small front rail on my CF free float though which is going to be crucial placement. |

Actually I have MOE's for it. This is a gun that I'm doing a test on to see if it will work as a police car gun. A leave it in the car and forget it gun. An issued as opposed to personally owned gun. One of the reasons for the thin hand guards is because that's what the current carbines have. The other is because the thin hand guards are what fits in the electric gun lock/racks in the cars. That being said, I agree. It looks cool, and it handles well. I need to get it on a scale. And to answer your question, I like them both. My working gun has MOE's on it, but its not lightweight. This test may change that. |

I am dying to post pics of my lightweight build but I am still waiting on parts. Got the Cav Arms lower and a DPMS slick slide upper but I am waiting on the Bushy pencil barrel  I have had it on order for months and when I call they have no answer as to when they are going to ship. What other pencil barrel options are there? Anyone have any experience with any carbon hand guards other than Clark?

While it's very possible to get an AR down to 7 lbs loaded, I don't recall ever seeing a fully-equipped carbine (optic, weaponlight, sling, back up irons) that was anywhere close to 6 lbs. unloaded. The one below now sports a CTR stock and weighs in at 7.1 lbs empty, and feels perfectly balanced. As pictured it's probably 7 lbs even.  Dirt test   |
