After 16 mags my fingers got tired of shredding PMAG wrappers, so only half full today. 
I guess I miscalculated, it'll hold 48 W/O desiccant.
Maybe I'll figure out a way to cram two more in with the desiccant.

I didn't have much reason to buy this case (Pelican 1200) other than the fact that I scored it for $35 so I put it to use hauling my PMAGs to the range. I've also got a space in there for a 20rd box of ammo.

Okay, here are my first two attempts.
First is the 1700 with my trusty M4. Perfect for fitting in the old trunk. 
Second was my 1720 in tan I bought for my SPR build. 
I just used a long razor knife and it shows with some of the rough cuts. Over all, though, I'm pretty happy with the cases. Still plenty of room for a few more items in the 1720. |

Tag to save a space for pictures of my Pelican Cases. looks good so far, i just ordered 2 more. I have a 1750 mainly for my bolt action Savage .270 and my Ruger 10/22. the 2 that I ordered friday a 1400 not sure what i'll use it for but something gun related, and a 1550 for my Playstation 3 I should have them both here to my TDY location by friday or saterday. so i may take pics when i set up the 1550 for the PS3, the controllers, and other accessories.(gotta have my COD4)

| I need a case that will fit at least 8 mags, one dpms AP4 with a strike fire mounted atop, a S&W MP15 MOE w/ strike fire atop(soon to have aimpoint w/ 3x mag), 2 bipods, both have vertical grips, 2 flashlights, 2 slings, Springfield XD40 with 2 mags. What case do you guys think will work best? Think i should just get a 1200 for the mags and get 2 more since a 1200 can hold 10? |

My method was a little different than others here. I used my printer to copy the rifle, bayonet, mag and Surefire. The rifle and bayonet required more than 1 page, obviously, and I taped those together before trimming. Then I cut the objects out and trimmed an extra 1/8" all the way around so I would have a snug fit when completed. I placed the cutouts on the foam where I wanted and traced them with a black Sharpie. I tried the electric carving knife method at first but it doesn't cut so straight. Since this is the only case I intend on doing this to, a hot wire cutter would have been an unwarranted expense. I ended up using a new utility knife blade by itself and it turned out great IMO. Once I was done, I used a spray contact cement to glue the center foam to the lower foam for added stability.
ETA-Make sure to hold the new utility blade vertical/perpendicular for a nice clean cut if you use this method. My 1750-

I have been reading around on the best methods to store firearms and seem to have been getting conflicting information. Originally I was planning on buying a pelican case, cutting the foam and storing my firearms in the same case with trigger locks on each. However, after reading up on things, people are saying storing it in a pelican case is not a good idea due to condensation.
I move around alot for work and was looking for a one stop solution that is easy to grab and toss in the truck to go to the range, move across country, or store safely in the house. I plan on storing ammo separately and buying a gun safe is 1. expensive, 2. a pain in the ass to move. So now that leaves me wondering one some possible solutions. So done correctly these cases CAN be used as long term storage, as long as there is some sort of silica gel inside to absorb any moisture inside? Pelican 1500D Peli Desiccant Silica Gel Suggestions? Storm over Pelican? |

Storm over Pelican? I wouldn't think it would be a problem if you were to put that gel or any other similar product to help control the moisture in the case. I'd also be sure to take the guns out and inspect them fairly often to check for any rust issues but if you shoot fairly often then you should be good. Just be sure to check them all and not just the ones you use that day. |

Storm over Pelican? Put some desiccant in and forget it. The worst thing you can do is open/close the case all the time, especially if you live in a humid environment.
