Monthly bump to keep this out of the archives: This is an old pic of one of my Starlight cases:  I think I want to get a 1700 and a 1200 soon however and I searched out this thread to compare sizes... My case is nice as I can carry a lot of stuff, but it is too big to fit in the trunk of my car  Also, ammo is supposed to be stored in a seperate case from the gun while travleing in PA so I think two seperate cases would fit that bill. Anybody know of a case smaller then the 1700 (by Pelican, Storm, Starlight, etc) that will still fit a M4A3 assembled (I don't need to keep all the extras in the case)? I am not in a rush as I have cheap "mart" plastic cases as well as my various soft cases that I am using now but I want to invest in a better case when I find a good price. |

I had the displeasure of working in a IMP factory a few years back between careers (mostly refrigerator/AC/pipe parts). Worst job I ever had...but that there is one hell of an impressive machine. I was within a day or two of turning in my 2-week notice, when I saw one of the molds crack a maintenance worker's skull (he lived, was trying to get it set down on a repair bench and a pin broke). I clocked out & never went back. Dangerous business. |

hey guys I got a question......I'm ordering a 1720 next week and was thinking of getting it w/ the Pick-n-Pluck foam. Now, I see that all of you guys have the regular foam inserts and no PNP foam. Is there something I don't know about the PNP foam? I'm "assuming" that it'd be easier to 'cut-out' with the PNP foam. Any info would be appreciated. BTW, awesome job on some of those cases!

| I think the regular foam looks much cleaner and offers a nicer presentation. It is more of a custom job which feels higher-end than the generic PNP. I will be getting a 1720 soon and will definately be using the regular foam. |

Bump. Anyone have a case or at least a picture of one cutout to fit two pistols and a few mags for each? I want to get a case to fit my P226 and G36 and I'm having trouble gauging the size that I need. ETA:It would be cool to get this tacked. |

This is interesting...at least to me.  There was some talk about folks laying their rifles in the cases - muzzle to the right. Folks stated this was to see the bolt, etc. I never thought about it, but I just realized I place mine in the case - muzzle to the left. For me, that's more oriented to the way I pick the rifle up: place right hand on the pistol grip, and the handguards are to the left; the same side of my body that my left hand is on. Just seems more efficient. AFWIW, I bought a 1700 from Quantico yesterday - I'll go pick it up on Sat. |
Yeah, it's gonna hurt like that until you pass out. Shouldn't be much longer though.
| Regarding the 10 mags in the 1200 case - they do fit perfectly. They're a little tricky to get out of the case though, so I came up with a solution. I tied a loop in some 550 cord and laid the loop in the case, then put the mags in on top of it so that the ends of the loop stuck out either end about 3", then folded the ends they rest on top of the mags. Now I can just grab a loop and pull up a mag quickly and easily. |

I got a Hardigg Storm Case i3200 in OD Green today at my friendly neighborhood CTD. After comparing Pelican and the Storm Case, I thought the quality of the SC to be much better - especially the latches and handle. I'm not too happy with my first effort, so I will probably get more foam and try again, but here are my pics:     |

I agree. The PnP looks jagged and just... not as nice. But it does do the job. I just haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. I think this is a 1200 - or something along those lines.  I have a 1720 that works great for most everything. I haven't bothered to cut out the foam, as I use it for whatever I might need on a given day. It came with three pieces of foam, each around 2" thick. With the middle piece of foam removed, there is a little too much space. I cut one in half, widthwise to get a couple of 1" thick pieces. Now I can put in a 2" piece in the bottom, then a 1" piece, pile everything on top, and the other 2" piece goes in the lid. Everything fits tight so it won't shift if the case gets dropped, but it's not so tight that I have to sit on the case to close it. |

I've been drooling over the Pelican SMC-1955-M16-D-18M for a couple of days now. I was wondering if anyone knew if Pelican offers that divider separately or not (the Pelican web site sucks for their accessories). Maybe it's not a divider, and just a small bit of foam. I don't know... |

I use a HARDIGG STORM case. I REALLY like it and think they are a better case than the Pelicans. It has 6 really beefy latches that latch 3 sides, side and end handles and tow wheels if you REALLY load it down. Forget the exact model but it will hold my AUG. spare barrel, brass catcher, and several mags easily. Paid $180 locally but can be had for about $165 on the web. IMO, Pelican is good but only more popular because people have not had hands on with both HARDIGG eats their lunch IMHO. Pics of before my AUG went in it.
