Camp Butner has 1,000 yards. North State Shooting Club runs matches there. There are usually open practices the Friday before a match. I’m not familiar with the range in the picture, but I would like to know more. |

I got this 18" KAC LPR Mod 2 upper from a trade in August of 2020 and have been recording groups since then using the SubMOA app on my phone. Mostly load workups and zero confirmations and just curiosity with some factory ammo. 13 different projectiles, 6 different powders, probably 3 different primers (CCI450, 41, and a few with 400, but I didn't keep track), and mixed range pickup brass (maybe once fired, maybe five times fired, i dunno). Most of the 77gr SMK's are MidwayUSA and Powder Valley Factory Seconds! Since 8-2020, I have recorded 859 shots in 169 groups with an average group size of 1.037moa. Average group is 5 rounds for reference. I figure if I've shot 6x times as many rounds in matches and just general shooting, I'm over 6k rounds through it, 7x would be nearing 7k rounds. When I go out for practice I usually shoot a couple 5 round groups then around 5-10 confirming dope at distance and then 30-40 rounds practicing, sometimes more but hardly ever less. At matches I shoot 100-200 rounds depending on the match. So, I don't think 6x or even 7x is unrealistic, it may be even more. I did a 5-round group last night, one last time before a match this Saturday and 5 shots were .9, which is certainly within it's capability still. Then I shot 50 more rounds practicing.  I know I know, everybody on the internet is a snipertyper PHD ballistician litz wannabe. Data is data though and this LPR will flat out shoot the 77gr SMK's, for an ar15 it's pretty great. |

I strongly considered the MK5 with H59, but really liked the Mil-XT in my NX8 so I wanted the same in the ATACR. Few more small parts showed up today and had some time to throw them on there. Ordered a variety of 69gr-77gr ammo to see what the Douglas likes.

I've had decent groups with 62 gr junk that was sitting around, doesn't seem to like any lighter stuff. I'll let you know if something jumps out. I'll chrono next time I go out and see how fast it cooks. |

I'm going to grab a few hundred rounds of AAC 77gr OTM and SMKs, and I kinda want to try out some of the heavier Shellshock loads from Badlands or BlackArc. They have 85gr and 80.5gr match bullets moving north of 2700fps from an 18" Douglas. I'll probably pick up some 77gr GMM also and run all of them for groups at 100 and 300 and see what it likes. I don't get back until June though so it's a long wait. But I'll post my results. |

Geissele was getting around that with IMI and AAC as well. Hopefully they will tighten up and speed up around the 100-150 round count. I found another thread online that is recent and that guy was getting 1/2-3/4 MOA groups right off the bat with multiple ammo types. He also shot a 10-shot 1.09 MOA group with AAC 77gr. That’s pretty solid. I wonder how that gas system handles hotter loads like the shellshock cased stuff. Seems like it would handle it better but I’d like to see real world testing on it. |
