I tried a Kabuto drop in from supersafeco.com It runs great. I am concerned the printed selector will break or ear out - Do M-16 3-position safeties work on the Kabuto or modified to do so? I'd rather have metal. |
|
Just looked at this. Never heard of it, but I would also be suspicious of a 3D printed lever. Not crazy about a nylon housing for the parts either. I’m assuming these are a 3 position FRT? I couldn’t find that info on the website. Might be wise to pick a known good manufacturer at this point. At that price point you could get a Grey Market Super Safety. |
|
IIRC these don't use an M16 safety, it's basically a semi-auto safety with a bit of reprofiling/cutting on the inner shelf area to interact with the other parts, and also a detent for engaging in the 180-degree position. KAK makes a semi safety with the 3rd position detent, and there is a printable jig you can use to file down the shelf to make it work. |
This guy mods standard 2 pos to 3 pos and then reprofiles the interface of the bar.![]() Two Position to Three Position Kabuto Safety With a Dremel I’m going this route…depends on how it runs this weekend. |

I have confirmed that as I said before a 3 position safety that has the cutout and detent to allow switching to the 3rd position for semiautomatic fire will work with the Kabuto that I have. In the first position its safe as expected, the second position allows the trigger pressure foot to kick forward and not reset the trigger, in the third position the safety keeps the trigger pressure foot from kicking forward and causes forced reset. |
| I have been printing the selectors and Kabutos with Fiberon PET-CF filament and have had really good results so far. I've been printing the Mini Housings with the levers and activators in the same filament. I have a Gforce Jawbone that I've been playing with the Kabuto that I've run over 500 rounds through the printed mini housing and parts with no adverse effects. Runs like a sewing machine, I think it depends a lot on the quality of print and the filament material used. I'm sure I'll get close to 2000 rounds with the printed parts I'm using and when they fail, I have a few dozen more, lol. |

Did you use a regular mil spec 3 position safety or the safe semi semi? |

The rear leg of the kabuto needs a place to slide forward into in the second position. When in the 3rd position the rounded part of the safety keeps that leg from canting forward engaging the trigger reset. I have not tried a mil spec 3 position safety. |

Will the mini fit in something with a M16 pocket? They promise drop in no fitting or modification needed, in the first line of their web page, I immediately don’t believe them. With all the different triggers out there in AR’s there is no such thing. The mini doesn’t need a modified pocket as far as I can tell. |

I will update here once the parts come in. I also have ordered a 3-position M16 selector, a full-size Kabuto, and some JB Weld. I plan to use the JB Weld to fill any necessary areas, as I can easily file the material back down to fit as needed. I decided on the 3-position selector because the grooves and the divot for the third position are already present. I figured this would be the best approach, as those features would be the most difficult parts to modify if I were to attempt to adapt my own 2-position selector. I also wanted to share an update I received from Super Safe Solutions regarding the SSA-E X in my lower. According to a message from them, the Geissele SSA-E shouldn't require any modifications for the drop-in and it will work with the Kabuto. Additionally, they mentioned that they will be restocking metal safeties soon and are just waiting for the right time to list them on their site. EDIT: I'll update how things went with the install and initial testing. |

Try looking here: Affordable 2A. He sells an all metal kit that comes with a 3 position selector. I've got a couple, his instructions worked for me. |
Anyone see this modification of the Kabuto design (the U-DIS) that was released recently? The wide compatibility and ability to print/select different sizes to tune seems attractive. All I have is PLA+ to print with, so not sure I can home-brew my own to check it out.![]() Reddit Link: U-DIS (Universal Drop In System) Geissele, LaRue, Schmid, milspec, CMC, Rise armament trigger and M16 safety compatible Files are on the odd sea. |

Update: not a ton of rounds through the PETG Kabuto, but I picked up some Fiberon PET-CF17 and printed some in that. I can really feel the increase in strength. Also, that UDIS pack has a fantastic short throw ambi safety with multiple length options. It almost feels like metal in the gun. Now, do I buy a D 60? Or do I attempt to save my wallet by limiting myself to standard capacity mags? |

| I have tried a plastic framed full size Kabuto, and an all metal mini Kabuto, and both failed differently. I just installed an all metal full size, from Affordable 2A Prints. It seems to dry fire far more smoothly, I'm hoping to test fire tomorrow. |

I beg to report complete success. I am seriously impressed with this Affordable2APrints unit. The quality is excellent, and it is able to drop in easily and be removed in a few seconds. It's slightly, slightly slower to install and remove than the Arizona Regulator, and in exchange you don't have a third position that disables the disconnector. You just have a Safe Semi Semi selector, if I understand correctly. I like it considerably more than the Arizona Regulator 3 position. Outstanding product. |

I printed a couple RAD’s I found on guncad. I printed in some pla-cf I had laying around. It worked in an lwrc m6ic I had laying around. I didn’t install a 3 position selector so it was safe/frt only. Worked for a mag or two but it was getting light primer strikes after 10 rounds, so probably needed a better hammer spring. I need to get some more advanced filament for these. They do work and use very little filament. |

Got a m16 selector from datum machine. Was installed in a H&R m16 clone. Did not work. The crummy 3d printed Saftey did work but was tight and super janky looking. Was hoping for a clone correct build. So is it confirmed the KAK safety linked Hereworks? |

You can do it to a regular semi safety too, but it's much more material to remove. |
