I'm far from an expert on large frame ARs, I just want to interject an interesting point. According to Kevin from Q, the 8.6 Blackout has some advantages compared to other necked up 308 based cartridges. Setting the terminal ballistics aside for a moment, the forward rib in your standard SR25 mag or Pmag sits adjacent to the neck of the 308 cartridge. The outside diameter of the neck is 0.338". The 0.338" bullet diameter of the 8.6 Blackout sits at that same spot in the magazine. The round is designed to mimic the 308 case, to promote reliable feeding from a box magazine. I haven't even finished building my 8.6 Blackout, so take this for what it's worth, I just find that an interesting point. |

The Wilson Combat barrel is 1:14 and it loves the Barnes 180gr TTSX. .358 Win Barrel I have various AR10 rifles in .308, 7mm-08, .243 Win., .338 Federal, and the .358 Win. I wanted a more compact heavy hitting rifle for hogs and deer so I went with the 16" .358 barrel vs. a longer one. It did a pretty efficient job on this buck, facing quartering shot at 50-60ish yards, bullet entered above right shoulder and was recovered in the left ham... right through the middle of the body. The 180gr Barnes TTSX recovered weight was 178grs.   The build was straight forward using all Aero M5 parts including standard AR10 (Aero's M5) buffer and spring. Accuracy is great coming in at and just under MOA, can't ask for more than that. |
