...a standard item that can be found at a hardware store or is it some special magic material only found from gun parts suppliers? This question pretty much applies to most all roll pins found in an AR... provided they are of the proper dia & length. |

| The called out pin is a MS16562-98 which is a 1/16" pin 3/8" long. The 7/16" long pin will work also but has to be centered almost perfectly to keep it from sticking out of one side. The really old TM manuals called out a 7/16" long pin but it changes to the 3/8" one later on. |

 this is what I'm talking about... and McMaster only lists 3/8" under the 1/16" mil-spec category... so is that the right length? for 500? I think I'll just wait until I need something to fill out an order to get me over the free shipping bar... even a 10 pak would be enough. |

Either pin length normally works. You might find one at one of the local or chain hardware stores or one longer you could cut off. Grainger sells roll pins. MSC sells roll pins. Some major chains will ship to store for free on stuff for store pick up. Lots of AR parts places sell them but you pay whatever they charge for shipping. But very few places actually sell the ones with the spec'd finish. I think they were 22 cents apiece and shipping cost at unbrandedar's site when I looked. Harbor Freight sells some pin. Tractor supply around here has some pins. Hobby shops with those scaled radio planes and cars have racks with bags of pins on them sometimes. |
