I assume its probably unavoidable but I've noticed that they are getting a bit scratched up on the lower.

Talking about the "slots" that the pivot pin goes through to lock in the upper.  I'm an AR noob so I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong, lol.

You have a metal point under pressure scraping the pin.  Nothing to worry about.
You can lube the slot if you'd like when you lube the pin.

I guess that depends how often you break down your carbine/rifle?

I would say it's normal over time.  The several AR's I have that mostly live in break down bags have the most wear on the pivot pin hole area since they are get broke down and put together all the time.  The wear is is just cosmetic and does not affect function or how tight the upper and lower fits together.  At least that's my experience.
