I wanted to waste some money so I bought the UBR GEN2 stock for my vanilla mil-spec carbine-length AR, but the spring noise - with and without the included spacer - is so loud and obtrusive it's all I hear through two layers of protection. It sounds like a slinky trying to commit suicide by hitting itself in the head with chains, and even after re-re-re-re-installing everything and floating the spring in lube, the sound remained. This is not the norm, right? If the only fix is buying another spring I'll just stick with my fixed MOE stock. The UBR isn't even a noticeable upgrade, at least for me. |

I've always put a bit of wheel bearing grease in the tube during assembly of the three I have on competition rifles. I've never noticed the noise to be excessive, and the distinct difference heard on locked open bolt is a help to realize a mag change is required. I've never had a problem from the grease, and my experience is most of the across the course shooters do the same. The UBR is the defacto standard stock of high power shooters. |
