This thread will be for the RBT/DTT FRT only so it hopefully doesn't get cluttered and is easy to follow along...

As much discussed, they're the exact same trigger.  I initially ordered from DTT and got the same exact trigger I ordered from RBT a few weeks later.

Gun #1: Aero homebuild 5.56 w/10.3-inch barrel, adjustable gas block, H2 buffer, dedicated OSS 5.56K can.  Mixed ammo; green tip, 64-grain Winny BSB, etc.
Results:  ZERO issues. Ran excellent with no malfunctions in both semi/forced reset mode.  Rate of fire reasonable and not too fast.  Double-taps were do-able, triples much easier.

Gun #2: Aero homebuild 300 BO w/8-inch barrel, adjustable gas block, H2 buffer, dedicated SureFire SOCOM300 SPS can.  Ran only 220-grain subsonic.
Results:  ZERO issues.  Likewise ran excellent with no malfunctions in both semi/forced reset mode.  Rate of fire slower than 5.56 and very manageable.  Double-taps were very easy.

Gun #3:  Aero 9mm EPC.  Factory built complete upper/lower with 16-inch barrel and new/updated chamber profile.  Ran Hornady Critical Duty 135-grain +P ONLY.
Results:  Works in semi ONLY, forced reset did not work even though it function tested the same as the rifles it did work in.  Was not expecting it to work; unsure if it's a BCG interface (with the trigger) or bolt-speed/buffer weight issue.  Need to revisit this setup to further diagnosis.

Gun #4:  CMMG Banshee .45 SBR (factory build).  Initially tested with/without OSS Rad45 suppressor using the medium bolt weight from their "reliability kit".
Results:  The medium weighted bolt functioned excellent unsuppressed but was inconsistent in forced reset when suppressed.  Staying with 220 and 230-grain +P ammo and switching to the heaviest bolt weight it functioned flawlessly both suppressed and unsuppressed in both can configurations (standard and short).  Rate of fire was slightly faster than a 0-1-2 UMP for reference and very controllable.  Double-taps we extremely easy and it would burn through the entire magazine if so inclined (used 30-round Kriss Vector magazines).

Hardly scientific but a good place to start.  The "winner" for the most fun to shoot was the .300 BO followed closely by the Banshee .45.  Slower ROF combined with subsonic ammo was a hoot and a half...and could get extremely expensive if you're gonna be the cool guy that let's everyone run a full mag through it...I am NOT that guy.

Looking forward to hearing other folk's experiences good and bad, including their setup.

...or not!

I thought it was an excellent idea to have an ROF subforum but apparently folks prefer these conversations in GD.  Oh well!

Thanks for sharing your findings. I have one, but I haven’t had the chance to install it and test it. It’s sitting in my property in WV. I have 5 different uppers I want to try (5.56 & 300blk with different barrel lengths). I’ll also bring an H2 and an H3 buffer with me. My plan is to test out the best possible set up for it. Once I do, I’ll report back.

I’ve tried mine with two uppers. I get a few rounds to go, and then a dead trigger with a live one in the chamber. It’s basically a stock lower, standard buffer and spring. I have an H2 and Spikes T3 buffer on the way. I will update with results.

The uppers are an M4A1 SOCOM Block 1 clone, and a suppressed 8” 300 Blackout.

EDIT UPDATE: H2 buffer cured it. Details below.

Factory stock 16" LWRC-DI midlength gas with factory H2 buffer and spring, and LWRCs custom BCG.

DTT FRT installed by gunsmith.

360rd (12x Lancer 30rd mags, 6x per range trip), fired in 2-5rd salvos (I've yet to do a continuous mag dump bc dont want to fry the barrel too early)

100% reliable.

~800-900rpm estimate, capable of doing 2rd salvos easily.

Recoil impulse is smooth, not overly jumpy in the reticle.

Lots of fun, and great conversation starter at the range.

H2 buffer appears to have cured it. I only ran 20 rounds, but it went smoothly.

PSA lower
Standard buffer spring
H2 buffer
14.5” SOCOM profile M4 barrel, carbine gas
FRT 15 L3

IMI XM193 ammo

PSA nitride 10.3” upper runs 5.56 M193 and .223 55gr FMJ reloads reliably with an H3 buffer and regular carbine spring.

ETA: DTT FRT15L3. Unsuppressed, though I will try a suppressor later, and check ROF both ways.

Likewise @StealthyBlagga, thanks for posting your results!

It'll be interesting to see how guns are running suppressed/unsuppressed so if that's applicable in anyone's results, please note that too if you would.  It'd be interesting in there's a change in the ROF between the two also.

REALLY interested to see how they're running in other than 5.56/.300 Blackout builds too, particularly PCCs.  It'd also be interesting to see if they function in "non-traditional" builds that use AR triggers, something like the CMMG Dissent or Resolute 7.62x39 for example; I was thinking about getting one of those just to try it out and see if it works.

I shot mine for the 1st time with an sig 516 G2 11 inch piston upper wish PSA lower with FRT 15 L3.  Flow through Sig SLX556C-QD suppressor.   77gn FGMM.   I shot it suppressed setting and worked but wouldn't lock back. I then put gas setting on regular/Normal and it rocked.  No issues.  It works great. I am getting another to throw in my Colt 6991 10.3 inch 9mm.  I will put it in a CMMG 9mm lower with Colt style mags.   This FRT is amazing.  I don't have a problem with the selectors.  They work great and are not sloppy as some have said.

11.5" BCM, H3 Buffer, Griffin M4SD2 suppressor. It definitely runs SIGNIFICANTLY faster with the suppressor. Around 700 RPM unsuppressed and 950 suppressed. When I installed the FRT the rifle already had about 500 rounds of mostly suppressed fire without being cleaned, so it was pretty dirty. With the suppressor on, it ran 100% up to 1000 rounds before I finally cleaned it, even while trying to pin the trigger hard to the rear for a mag dump. Unsuppressed, pinning the trigger to the rear hard, I had 1 stoppage while firing a mag dump. Letting off the trigger allowed the bolt to return to battery chambering another round. I'm actually suprised it ran as well as it did that dirty and trying to get it to stop working. So yes, a suppressor speeds things up and adds to reliabiltiy.

Outfuckingstanding report Gunny!  Thanks for contributing to the thread, it's very much appreciated.

Additional comments about selector fit/function/etc. are likewise useful.  I also found the trigger pins to have a lil too much play for my liking so if people have comments on those please comment on that too.

I’m starting to think an “over gassed” system is going to turn out to be the most reliable.

Used to be a Bump-Lewis, now it's a FRT-Lewis.

So far has run flawless with 51t Brakeout, or with Saker 556 suppressor.  Safety lever does not have very positive stops, but I'm not sure if the safety detent spring has been modified in this rifle's previous lives.  It also ran fine with the original RB FRT.  Gassy AF with the can on it.

Commercial Lower (I think a Runner Runner Guns or some other small shop)
DTT FRT-15L3 dropped right in
A1 stock and rifle buffer and spring
20" stainless .223 Wylde barrel, pretty heavy.  Rifle gas.  I have a 20" chrome-lined FN waiting as a replacement.
15" Seekins handguard with their 4" extension for the Lewis gun look .  When I did this there were no long handguards around.
TA-110 with red dot.
Magpul 40 or D60 preferred.

Certainly doesn't seem to hurt as long as the buffer is heavy enough to mitigate/counter bolt bounce...I think that makes sense...?

Thanks @mPisi, another excellent addition to the thread with great information/detail!

I likewise agree the selector lacks a real positive engagement and can be vague or otherwise mushy. @ssgtcarroll is going to offer machined standard MIL-SPEC style selectors that will work with the DTT/RBT FRT in the EE and I believe he's building a customer list.  For clone folks or people wanting a more traditional selector that should prove to be an excellent option.

Did another 4x mags today (2x30 2x35), total is now 490rd. 100% reliable, and 100% fun.

A couple of notes:

FRT recoil / vibration very different then semi auto in terms of accessories on your gun
-->
-MLOK rail covers vibrating off (BCM)
-Bipod legs sliding forward a few clicks due to vibration (B&T polymer bipod)
-WML Flashlight momentarily turning on for a fraction of a second due to vibration
(Armytek Doberman Pro)

This last one is something I only noticed when reviewing video of firing, need to see if this happens in regular semi auto as well. It may be something unique to my light.

....

In terms of the safety selector, mine is very soft and easy to bump out of position. I let a guy at the range try mine, and his hand accidentally bumped it off FRT, from the 180 degree zone into the ~150 degree zone, switching it back to regular semi.

I've got a DTT 3 position in a basic setup. Spike's lower, PSA premium 16" midlength with FSB, so no AGB. Mostly shot suppressed, wanted to see if it would run before experimenting with a tuned gas tube or adjustable BCG.

Through about 1200 rounds, it's been 100% with and without a suppressor after changing the buffer. Used an H2 for unsuppressed and also with a Flow 556k. Gas to the face wasn't an issue with the Flow, and I didn't notice much if any difference with rate of fire. Tried it with a Nomad and also a Turbo K, and both of those needed an H3 to avoid bolt bounce.  But the gas with them was almost unbearable, which I figured would be the case. Both are high back pressure cans and it's not an adjustable gas system. Rate of fire was quite a bit higher with those. Would not recommend a high back pressure can with a non-adjustable system, but that's the case regardless of using an FRT or not. It's annoying in semi but suffocating in FRT.

My Lazarus 6 got out of jail this week and I tried that too. Better on sound than the Flow, and it ran with both the H2 and H3. Rate of fire a little higher than the Flow, but not as high as with the Turbo or Nomad. Gas to the face was significantly less as well, and will probably leave the Lazarus on it.

Have done a couple mag dumps to see if it would get through without any stoppages, but mostly 2-6 round bursts. Easily controllable, and with a little practice getting the desired number of rounds off consistently is easy.

As others have mentioned, I don't like the selector levers and the detents aren't as positive as I would like. Compared to an SS, which I have in another lower, I can't really tell a difference in performance. The push button takes a little getting used to, lots of muscle memory to overcome when you've used an AR selector for years but it works. A lot cheaper too. But given what you're spending to feed an FRT the trigger cost will become fairly irrelevant pretty fast.

Thanks @GT86 for weighing in!

Great sampling of high round count, different buffer weights, both types of suppressors, etc.  Additional observation with your SS experience is also appreciated.

I noticed in some YT videos (PSR and Micah IIRC) that the ROF seemed to increase as the mag emptied.  This was readily observable when they were doing full mag dumps, not controlled "bursts".

As I stated in my OP, getting 2-3 rounds off in the forced reset mode was relatively easy.  With that being said I wouldn't be interested in any type of FRT that was NOT 3-position; having SEMI as an available firing mode isn't optional in my opinion and saying that you can still can 1-round off in FRT mode isn't a substitute for that...

With all this being said I think we're going to start seeing parts failures with the accelerated round counts, which only makes sense.

Agreed. I'm curious as to what the durability is with the DTT and also if parts will become available when stuff breaks. Either from RB/DTT or aftermarket.

I did forget to mention that all of my AR FRT shooting has been with cheap plinking 55 gr 5.56, either Winchester or Federal. No idea how well heavier weight and/or longer projectiles would work.

Ideally someone will buy a DTT, disassemble it, and make solidworks type files of all the individual parts so that replacement parts could be machined.

Some of what I shot was old SSA 77gr matchkings. It functioned just fine. I had the SSA ammo on the back shelf for years because it was loaded poorly and very underpowered. Rate of fire was significantly slower than the M193 from being underpowered, but didn't cause any issues.

It’s going to be a while, but I now have a Rarebreed FRT, a Selektor FRT, and a Super Safety (on the way). It will probably be a month or so before I can get a day out at my WV property to properly test them. I will post my results when I do.

I had the chance to run mine again today after ok results last time.

I’ve found that removing the spring from the Vltor a5 will make the rife run properly. Night and day experience between the two.

I first used an Vltor a5 h3. It ran like total dog shit. With the Vltor a5 h2 it ran much better but not perfectly.

Now the exact same Vltor a5 h2 without the spring it runs 100%.
The weights absolutely need free movement to prevent bolt bounce.

I’ve found this to be the case with SS(which ran the best) Az regulator and the ddt.

Standard carbine tube, standard spring, T3 buffer, B King's A2 upper/barrel/BCG.  11.5" barrel

Winchester M193

Runs like a raped ape.  Singles, doubles, mag dumps.  Zero failures.  Dad tried it too and refuses to mag dump.  Just kept doing bursts.  No trigger lockups or failures.  110 rounds for this upper.

I've had nothing but problems with Spike's products for 20 years but the T3 buffer with the sliding weights really seems to be good.

EDIT:  2nd upper on same lower worked for 30 round test mag.  14.7" with auto carrier.  So long as carrier is in spec and an upper is gassed sufficiently, I don't imagine upper swaps are adding to the data.

16in mid gas upper with adjustable gas block, H3 buffer and tubbs flat wire buffer spring, 223/5.56.
The FRT15L3 works perfectly.

Bore buddy upper, 16 in 22lr with their bolt weight kit, adjustable trip kit, sure strike firing pin, bolt buffer, quiet collar, and their pressure plug in the buffer tube.
Will not run in FRT mode. Works find in semi auto, but in FRT, it fires one round then a dead trigger with a live round in the chamber with a light strike.

PSA AR-V with Rare breed trigger. I was getting bolt bounce. Swapped out for a 8.5oz buffer and zero issues

Scar 17 with Imperial Arms lower, Rare Breed trigger. I had to send my bolt to IA to have them add a a trip
Stolen Firearm: Colt AR15, Serial # SP342380, 16" carbine. Stolen in California by Kevin Ayres, and taken to Missouri.

Thanks for contributing to the knowledge base, we appreciate it!

When I have about a 1/2-day to figure it out, I'll put together a table as suggested with the particulars so people can easily refer to it and not have to dig through the post...bear with me please!

Spike’s Tactical 16” barrel midlength gas that I installed a Geissele gas block and 13.5” Mk4 rail on.
Spike’s lower with collapsible stock with Spike’s T3 buffer, Spike’s full auto BCG and Rare Breed FRT.
Rugged Razor 556 suppressor installed.
Runs like a sewing machine with no failures @ 60 rounds so far. Will do some more testing soon hopefully.

I’m going to need a second job to afford ammo…

Okay here is some testing results for a 9mm Banshee with 5" barrel, both suppressed and loud.

First, bone stock with a KVP ASR muzzle brake. Stock standard carbine buffer, no bolt tuning weight.  Works with 115 grain 9mm FMJ.

Next, with either middle and heavy bolt tuning weights, it runs in semi using 146gr subsonic FMJ.  Adding a SiCo Hybrid .46 suppressor makes it malfunction in 3rd position where there is a live round in the chamber and a dead trigger.  Something about the added back pressure makes the trip occur earlier.  Adding an H2 buffer makes it work with subsonic ammo and either the middle or heavy bolt tuning weight.  But this configuration causes a malfunction with 115 grain FMJ where it short strokes (bolt closed on empty chamber).

Hypothetical achievable ROF with the middle bolt tuning weight, H2 buffer and suppressor is middle 500 RPM.

I still need to test the light bolt tuning weight and no weight with the H2 buffer.  Ideally I want it to run reliably unsuppressed with 115 grain FMJ and suppressed with subsonic ammo, and only have to change the buffer.

@MikeWhiskey

Excellent stuff.
Thanks.

Are any of your FRTs 3 position?

Thanks!  Trying to help/be a productive member/NOT waste site resources...!

The RBT/DTT FRTs are 3-position; safe/semi/forced reset.  I was/am NOT interested in an FRT that isn't actually...

Thanks for the response!

...and seconded on the ammo, especially when testing to figure out what's working or isn't.

Excellent information!  PCCs definitely require more tuning.  I was able to get my .45 Banshee to run both suppressed/unsuppressed using the heaviest bolt weight and 230-grain +P ammo.  I don't have much standard ammo anyway so I figured why not; it's still subsonic anyway...just expensive and heavy.

That's running well for y'all @hrt4me?  Doesn't seem like the FRTs in 5.56 guns are particularly ammo picky, unlike the PCCs.

I don't have any supersonic .300 Blackout to test in mine yet but I'll be curious if that makes a difference and will update the thread accordingly.

Thanks everyone for contributing/posting, I appreciate it and it helps the community figuring these things out.

I will be building a 9mm retro AR, mostly of PSA parts. I have a second Rare Breed FRT on the way, in addition to a Kaw Valley 10 ounce buffer and an XP spring. I will let y'all know how it goes.

Good deal!  PCCs are definitely not as straightforward as 5.56/.300 Blackout builds...
