My AR has a rocksett'ed can on the end of it. The usual way I clean my bore is by sending patches down it like normal. I know that you don't need to clean an AR's bore that much, but I like to do it under certain circumstances. Nothing crazy, just light oil patch through. However, with a suppressor on the end of it I'm concerned about patches falling off into the baffles, so I'm guessing I should switch to using a boresnake?

Also - I sometimes accidentally go a bit overboard with the oil when cleaning and sometimes have oil drip down my bore. Normally this is fine but I'm worried about oil getting into my suppressor baffles. I'm assuming that this will burn out - just want to make sure a bit of oil in my baffles is OK.

Thanks.

JFYI - in case you are not aware, there were a number of suppressors from 30+ years ago which were made to be used with liquid in them to make them more efficient. There were smaller than what was normal for the state of the art then. They even came with a special applicator for the oil. Liquid assists in absorbing heat and can reduce pressure.

I expect that any residual oil (if it doesn't all evaporate beforehand) in your suppressor would only have a positive effect on performance.

I would imagine with the oil in the baffles, you'll find that it's 1) a lot quiet, but 2) a lot more smokey at first as the oil burns. At least the first few shots or so. Then you'll start to hear it'll be noticeably louder but also less smokey.

Yes, you can use bore snake or anything that you're fancy to. I would just say any sort of cleaning is better than no cleaning at all.
