I’ve made a lot of mistakes with rifle lights. I really should just sell the older stuff and consolidate. But, for now I’m at least trying to minimize battery types. Here are the details: 1. Surefire 640 DFT. 2. Streamlight HL-X Pro. I mistakenly assumed that the batteries were interchangeable. No, the SF and SL 18650s seem to be different enough that they are not interchangeable and that is infuriating. Question: Can I consolidate on an 18650 that will work in both without issue? Something like the Modlite 18650? 3. Would you believe I’m stupid enough to have done even worse with 18350? 1. Surefire 340 DFT, Modlite PHLv2 (non DF), Clould Rein Micro 1. Same question. Could I standardize on the Surefire or modlite battery for all three? Because the modlite batteries do not have built in charging they seem to be more of a universal fit. Is this true? I should just sell everything that isn’t a Surefire DFT and start over. Angry.?? |

The cells with built in charging and/or protection circuitry do tend to be longer than a typical 18650. Since the lights you are messing with are single 18650 lights, you could try some bare cells and a standard lithium-ion 18650 charger. This does bring some inherent risks, but not having multiple cells in series mitigates most of the real dangers. Both the SF and SL 18650 type cells are protected 18650's. They should be cross compatible unless there's a different enough length between them to case a mechanical issue screwing the lights back together. If you flip them around does either combo of different brands work? and what length difference do the two cells have? |
