I looking at putting together my 1st pcc in 9mm I have a couple extra standard ar lowers sitting around. I think I’ve settled on using Glock/Magpul mags. Do I just need an adapter for the mags and any complete upper? For now I’d prefer a 16 “ barrel to use an adjustable stock. Also not looking to spend a ton but want something reliable and fun for grandkids. I’m hoping to just get a package that has the complete upper, adapter and buffer. |

If I was you, I would just get a complete firearm. It wouldn't be but a few hundred more. This way, you aren't building something that may be unreliable or have issues. And the 9mm AR platform is one that requires some effort when you build them from parts. They can be a PITA to get running perfectly. Here you go. Now....you do have a low cost option..... Buy the upper of your choice, then go to https://blowback9.wordpress.com/ and then decide on a buffer/buffer spring combo after reading the webpage in the link I provided. Then instead of the adapter, get a few 9mm endomags in the style you need for a std. lower receiver. I would also suggest that you go to google, and search using the term "ar15.com forum AR 9mm build" and read some of the previous threads regarding building the AR 9mm platform so you understand what you need to do to get your build done. . |

If you want to use Glock mags and a standard AR lower, you have two choices…….Stern Defense and Silvan. I have the Stern Defense in two styles. One for Glock mags, and one for Beretta mags. I’ve had no problems with the Glock mag adapter, though I’ve had a few issues with the one for Beretta. Probably minor adjustment issues. I have no experience with the Silvan. I have read that, at least, some have issues with some Glock mags. That’s why I went with Stern Defense, though Stern Defense costs considerably more than Silvan. As for the dedicated lower I saw mentioned. I have no experience with a dedicated 9mm. I do have a dedicated lower for 10mm/45acp, and have had no issues with it. Though I’m not thrilled about their mag release. |

I run the CMMG RDB setups so I use the factory CMMG RDB Glock lower if I want to use Glock mags as it places the mag in the proper position for their upper and I like the traditional mag release location. |

You can go factory 16” 9mm AR like Springfield, S&W, Colt or a few others and will have something that you know will work out of the box. The other option is building your own with glock lower and 9mm uppers. Just need to do a bit of research before you start buying parts. I liked the factory options because I haven’t had any problems with my colt. |

I had a Sylvan for a hot minute until a piece of metal chipped off the ejector and i started getting malfunctions. Replaced it with a stern that operates trouble free and also has lrbho. I also have 3 Endomag kits which also run perfectly. I use them if i just want to take the 9mm upper out in the bag next to an AR15, swap uppers and run a little 9 after the 556. I take my lower with the Stern Defense block if I'm running Glock platforms and just want to take a stack of Glock magazines for everything. Stern mag release is not far off from the normal ar15 manual of arms for magazine changes. Your same finger is just going somewhere different. The Sylvan will be a bit more of a leap. As of right now I see no need to take up space in the safe with a dedicated 9mm lower. If you really want a complete upper and adapter packaged together plus the buffer that will get pricey, like 700-plus. At that point might as well buy a complete 9mm carbine. Easier to get yourself an upper That's known to test well with your chosen adapter. Stern will tell you what bolts and uppers may be problematic on its site. You could potentially come in in the high 5s for everything if you do it that way and do PSA for the upper, which still isn't far off from just buying a rifle. High 4s or 500 bucks if you do the Sylvan I don't consider myself to have saved much money going the adapter route. it was just important to me that any lower in my safe be able to run any upper because I don't have a massive vault to store a million configurations of complete rifle. |
