I have been meaning to replace my 6061 AL carbine tube with a 7075 AL tube for the sake of getting my rifle closer to "mil-spec." However, unlike the tube that came with my PSA lower kit back in the day, this new 7075 tube seems unevenly tapered on the edges. I scoured the internet and google images for similar situations but haven't been able to find anything like it.

These are the PSA 7075 ones - exactly this product here:

Anyways is this something that anyone here has seen before?

They just turned down the thread run-out to clean it up.

The drawing allows for this.

That's pretty normal.  You can use 50 buffer tubes from 20 manufacturers and 49 of them will have variations or differences like this.  Yes, it screws with my OCD but it's something you learn to live with.

I ordered some last week and what they sent didn't match the features describe.  No dry film and front-end cut was not a mil spec type tube but one of those extended things with a slot in the middle.  Came from them not some other vendor and I have never seen what I got even advertised by them. I was disappointed. Bags they were in didn't even have a part number label.

Yeah the the tubes look a bit "cleaner" on the website photos but regardless the unevenness does disturb me somewhat...

The uneven portion is on the drawing. I didn't measure one but it doesn't look off of the drawings representation. It is the front design and not seeing the dry film like the features mention I don't like and it made me wonder about the rest of the features and description.

This is a better picture of what I am trying to display. I can't see this being normal.

It was just trued prior to threading.  Cosmetic only, non issue.

I have one like that.  I liked it more, because the exposed threads looked like it wasn't assembled all the way. The abbreviated threads looked more purposely machined.
All of the different types worked just fine.

I understood what you were pointing out but the print allows a .005" mismatch. I went ahead and measured one of the ones I received and it was less than that and the threading that was turned down also appeared correct by the print.

Still the other features or lack of are what disappoints me. I don't have much use for a tube that can't be easily removed if needed with the upper still closed.

Also, if you are going to make a tube with an extended lip to get more retainer coverage how about not cutting the U slot all the way back even with the top edge of the tube and stop the back of the slot at the distance out the bottom extended lip of a mil spec tube is.

I have a tube like that.  It was in a standard Aero Precision buffer kit I bought from ARMorALLY about five years ago.  It functioned fine, but "bothered" me too.  I didn't know the spec allowed it.  I bought a second "perfect" kit directly from Aero, and moved that one to a later budget build.

Its a PSA tube, you get PSA machining.

get a VLTOR if you want a better finished one

I checked some of mine and noticed some variations.  Then I realized that I really didn’t care, lost interest and moved onto something else.

OP.....send the tube back, buy a different tube if it's important to you.

Or don't.

So I guess ya aren't properly staking the castle nut then? WHY would you need to easily remove a receiver extension while the upper/lower are assembled? Been a gunsmith for a minute and never heard of this also an 07 manufacturer (we sold all of our AR stuff to Vltor when we closed up shop in 2018) have never heard of anyone intentionally not staking a castle nut so they can remove a receiver extension with an assembled upper/lower

Guess all you want and keep on gunsmithing. You may figure out the reason one day. Do you know how easy it is the remove a staked castle nut if needed but not a locked in extension if needed. If you had read all the tech post for the last 25 years you would know why.
If you like those style tubes and think it is a useful feature wonderful. I don't. Not even sure how castle nuts got drug into this anyway.

Ever tried unlocking a gun with that style RE when a FA pawl breaks and locks up the BCG? Better have a hacksaw or cut off wheel, because you are not unthreading that tube.

Over the summer I had a round of Igman M193 pop a primer that lodged itself in the cam track of the BCG.  Locked the BCG up so tight that I had to pull the tube to get the upper off the lower.  Cam pin cut a groove through the upper after beating the BCG out as well.  Sometimes shit happens and things you wouldn’t think would cause an issue in normal use end up bending you over a barrel when something unexpected happens.

A popped primer lodged in the "right" location is yet another reason that REs with an extended lip are a bad idea, as you pointed out.

OP, it looks like you have a true mil-spec tube. Those threads aren't cut, they're rolled on. That means no material is removed, making a stronger threaded section. Spokes are also made like this, which is why the threaded section is a larger diameter than the tube section behind it. The weird taper may be a by product of not being in the machine perfectly straight and/or centered.
