I wish they would manufacture HK 416 and 43x rifles stateside so we get semi-auto versions of the real deal. Sucks to hear about how they view the civilian market in Europe. They are doing better than they did 20 years ago though. Given their high price, it just means Haenel and B&T will take away their sales. There are a variety of other AR makers who will do well serving the EU market. |

Hello again from Greece . So 6 moths and 2500 rounds later . GGG kicks ass and we also get Norma 223 in 55 or 62 . Price per round 0.53 euros The rifle has become an IPSC/USPSA rifle so current setup has a sightmark citadel 1-6 and a vector frenzy pistol dot on an offset 45 mount Took 4th place in the Greek National semi auto open division Managed to reduce overall weight to 4 kilos including optics , mounts etc So far 0 malfunctions after 2500 rounds but I do clean it every 200-250 rounds Impossible to get in touch with Haenel . They either don't care or have better things to do Still don't know my barrel thread pitch but I will send my upper to a gunsmith to remove the A2 and built me a muzzle brake Still cannot find service parts ie firing pin , extractor etc . Price in Greece for all lengths with mlock still round 2800 euros Managed to 3D a magwell . Helps alot when running matches Managed a 1/3'' group at 100 yards from a bipod and hit 10*10 plates at 200 yards like hitting paper at 25 yards So love the accuracy , built quality and faultless action Hate the weight , impossible to find AR compatible parts and Haenel is non existent as a company Trigger pull is down to 1 kilo or 2lbs One thing Im thinking of trying is the AR-15 DMP buffer system using 3 internal springs and/or their duffer spring https://www.tacticalstore.gr/product/dpm-buffer-ar-15-m-16-5-56-2-23-pcc-9mm-captured-version-2/ This rifle is properly OVER gassed but there is no adjustable gas block . I have seen a few aftermarket options in Europe but I don't know quality wise if I can trust them. https://huntac.de/en/p/adjustable-5-position-gas-block-for-haenel-cr223 |

Sorry to hear about your poor customer service with Haenel. B&T imported 10.5” versions of your gun as pistols until the BATF blocked it. I did not buy one because of the lack of spare parts. Very stupid of them to do that in my opinion. I wish that Geissele or Daniel Defense exported their goods to Europe for civilians. I bet you would love a 14.5-16” Geissele Super Duty rifle for competition. Their triggers are phenomenal. |

Daniel Defence is available in Europe . Despite that at the time of purchase I chose the piston system over DI , Haenel has all controls ambi and I am left handed and finally dealers decided to sell the Daniel Defence M4A1 RIII for 3300 euros . Bcm recce-14 mcmr is also available but for 3400 euros In the end I chose the Haenel due to price , piston system and ambi controls . I also thought that because Haenel is a EU based company parts and service would have been easier. It was only later that I realized how important weight is ( Haenel being almost 2 full lbs heavier than a DI M4 ) and how bad Haenels customer service is . Even my dealer cannot get hold of spare parts and he is the sole distributor of Haenel in Greece |

Two engineers designed the HK 416 family . Robert Hirt and Chris Sirois . Then they went to saudi Arabia and designed ( copy paste to be precise ) the Caracal 816 Caracal purchased Haenel . As a result the same two people designed ( copy paste ) the Haenel MR/CR 223/308 This video deals with the 816 https://youtu.be/WLXHXA_iqHU?si=5Z4cN79Q9xU2NPS6 |

Hello guys 5500 rounds later still running like a dream I tried a DPM buffer and spring and the factory one is miles better Won a national Ipsc match Just ordered a Vector Constantine 1-8x24 fiber dot LPVO I don't know if the image is visible This is my national guard setup https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/6987/YiiMS2.jpg |

So guys good news and major bad news ...good news first I decided to swap Lpvo and dot and Lpvo mount . My sightmark citadel 1-6 is coming off with a fault . The illumination decided to go on strike so I am cashing in the Sightmark warranty My new Lpvo is a Vector Continental 1-8 fiber dot fitted on a new and slightly higher 1.7'' cantilever mount I also bought the new Vector Frenzy X pro gen II solar multi reticle mounted on an offset 45 mount Finally I ordered a precision armament Hypertap and the barrel thread is 15x1 Bad news now . After almost 6000 rounds the ambi bolt catch decided to snap in two ... Very poor mim part and Haenel is impossible to reach so replacement parts are a big nono . Plus common AR-15 ambi bolt catches do not fit the Haenel lower God bless the Germans and my ignorance |

Οκ latest update . Vector 1-8 conti fiber dot fitted . Could one of the best value for money lpvos on the market Vector frenzy solar gen Ii fitted . Does everything like a holosun 507 but costs 1/2 the money Finally I can 100% verify that at least the EU 14'5 inch rifles have a 15x1 RH barrel thread |

We cannot speak with haenel . No answer to emails or phone calls My arms dealer removed a bolt release from a brand new haenel cr223 and I send him back the broken one Haenel is the worst if not the worse firm I have ever delt with regarding after sales and customer service |

May have nothing to do with patent infringement. Anyway, hope all is well in Greece. Thanks for the info. |

Guys has anybody tried to fabricate or match a longer handguard ie 13.5'' ? I tried one from the HK MR223 but it was a big nono Then I 3d printed one using P12 material which can go up to 300 deg C but it flexes alot so also a nono The only viable solution is to 3D print a 8cm or 3'' section and attach it to the original mlock handguard Any better solutions you may have tried ? |

I am unaware of anyone in the US doing such a thing. I would check with your European friends who shoot competitions. My google searches find nothing on the after market unfortunately. The HK MR 223 on the otherhand (along with normal DI AR variants) have a plethora of aftermarket support. |

Problem was solved but a more serious problem arose So regarding the handguard after using the original part for 3D scanning I am now able to 3D print in any material ( polymer , aluminium , titanium ) and to any desired length In the meantime I used a HK 416 handguard as a donor , cut exactly 9cm to add to the factory 27cm so I ended up with a 13.5'' handguard which is a perfect match for my 14.5 barrel https://ibb.co/s9SX44d https://ibb.co/yVZsqcP https://ibb.co/yBjx9h3 https://ibb.co/8PsrtJ3 The problem I found out is serious barrel pitting/rust behind the gas block piston port 8000 rounds , proper cleaning and maintenance after every 100 shots and the barrel produced pitting and rust https://ibb.co/9s7HH7B Haenel this is unacceptable I will try to post some photos later on This is after cold blueing and some protection oil ... https://ibb.co/HBXmdkF |

Good to hear from you again. Sorry to hear about that issue. The images you linked can be more easily viewed by adding: Let's see how Haenel responds. A lot of people seem to be complaining about their customer service. Any history with Schmeissers? They seem to be getting good reviews. We do not have direct access to either brand stateside more or less due to the dumb importation laws. https://schmeisser-germany.com/en/ |

Hello my friend The semi auto is a new luxury for us sport shooters in Greece so when I bought mine very few where available at that time ( different brands ) Oberland is an excellent option but it's a DI Grand power just released the GP 15 M which is almost 2 pounds lighter than my Haenel 223 and almost 600 euros cheaper I am thinking of selling the haenel and I will try to import probably from a dealer the Radiant Mod 1 Realistically Italian firms like ADC and NJ offer better customer service . Also Grand power in CZ looks very promising offering a piston AR at the same weight as a DI https://grandpower.eu/products/product-categories/r15-freya/gp-r15m/ |
|
If you are not able to suppress your rifle in Greece, there is no reason in my mind to chose a piston AR over a DI (direct impingement) AR. I would steer you towards a well made direct impingement AR that you can easily get spare parts for, especially if you are shooting ISPC type competitions. With the new flow through style suppressors here in the USA, the emphasis on having a piston drive semi auto rifle with an adjustable gas block isn't as great as it used to be. Everyone is steering towards a DI variant with a new flow through type suppressor. Take care and Happy New Year |

Hello guys A few thousand rounds more and still kicking So buffer spring and buffer weight question and also ejection tune My OEM buffer spring has lost its length and is close or shorter from 10'' I have two springs and two buffers available Blue and red sprinco OEM buffer which is 5.07 oz ( H3 buffer on a ar15 ? ) Kynshot hydraulic buffer Using a no info 11'' spring and the Kynshot buffer I get 1:30 / 2.00 oclock ejecting and the empty shell travel more than 10-12 feet I would say it's factory over gassed Found an aftermarket German made 5 position adjustable gas block but it looks like it's only made for suppressor use and it cannot reduce gases when not using a can... Can you share your wisdom as to how I can reduce gases and achieve a 3 o'clock ejection ? |
|
What was the ejection pattern with the OEM buffer and spring? If Haenel is running a H3 equivalent buffer at baseline, then they purposedly run it over gassed for reliability. Most military pattern guns are over gassed and not meant for competition. In America, we have something call an A5 lower receiver extension. It's basically a rifle length buffer tube, spring and buffer. It smooths things out on piston ARs and over gassed DI rifles. Bravo Company (BCM) sells them along with VLTOR, although BCM is now using their own proprietary version called the "Mk2". https://www.vltor.com/shop/ar/receiver-extensions/re-a5-a5-receiver-extension/ https://bravocompanyusa.com/ar-15-lower-parts/mk2-recoil-management-system/ I used a BCM A5 lower group on my Daniel Defense 16" mid-length upper with great success when running suppressed (using a Wolff XP spring and a custom A5H1.5 tungsten weight buffer). Zero gas to the face, very smooth shooting when suppressed (Surefire SOCOM 5.56 RC2). I'm not sure what you can buy from the USA there in Europe when it comes to AR parts and accessories. I've used Slash's heavy buffers with great success on my suppressed ARs: https://heavybuffers.com/. He sells some with adjustable tungsten weights. They are very nice and well worth the money. Do you have access to Wolff gun springs? They make a "XP buffer spring" that is stiffer than standard carbine springs: https://www.gunsprings.com/index.php?page=items&cID=2&mID=1&dID=79#490 Who is the gas block manufacture for the adjustable gas block for your Haenel? I'm guessing it tunes the port sizes (or gas relief) down too much to run without a suppressor? Unless you can get a custom carbine length buffer with tungsten weights (the kind that Slash sells) along with a heavier Sprinco or Wolff spring, your next best bet would be to try to get an A5 type receiver extension. Guys here in the USA have been using A5 lowers for years with over gassed HK 416 or similar variants. It really helps. Frankly though, I wouldn't be too concerned if it is ejecting 1-2 o'clock as long as it is reliable. You can always change a buffer spring every 3000-5000 rounds. How is the wear inside of the receiver? Is you cam path OK? I believe Haenel is steel reinforcing the cam paths on their receivers (which is a must on piston ARs). |

There is absolutely no wear or tear internally . It's like I bought it yesterday ...amazing engineering. I will give them that It has always been 1:30-2:00 o'clock ...even with OEM parts . I am aware of the A5 and A2 kits . I have an A2 on the way for my AR10 . It's a 16'' DI that will run both carbine and fixed stocks with both carbine and rifle length tubes https://www.earms.at/ar-parts/ar-spare-parts/7095/armalite-ar10-buffer-tube-a2-rifle-length-extension-kit The gas block I found is this by waffen burk https://huntac.de/en/p/adjustable-5-position-gas-block-for-haenel-cr223 We have a guy here in Greece that does some really nice stuff . He makes a fully adjustable buffer system with weight and springs https://www.dpmsystems.com/en-gb/e-shop/rifles-buffer-absorbers/m-16ar-15-223556ar-15/m-16-ar-15-223-5-56-calibre-rifles-mil-spec-standard-buffer-tube Is it possible to correct the ejection pattern and calm the muzzle rise just by playing with buffers and springs while maintaining the factory non adjustable gas block I also run a precision armament hypertap that works like a dream ....still I am after less recoil This is a short clip of the rifle https://youtu.be/8eIudG2YNMc?si=8ABM-JeHLPY9C4xb |

Is it possible to correct the ejection pattern and calm the muzzle rise just by playing with buffers and springs while maintaining the factory non adjustable gas block Yes it is but it won’t be perfect. Nothing beats changing the gas block or adjusting the gas block. The Waffen Burke gas blocks guys have tried on HK MR556 rifles have been given mixed reviews. For your second question, you will have to play with the buffer weights. I would start with a A5H1 and go up. BCM has a new nomenclature, so you would start at a similar weight and experiment. I would also do this using a spare lower and keep your Haenel lower as is, unless there are laws in Greece against buying spare lowers. A5 or Mk2 buffers are longer, and the tube they run in is longer along with the recoil spring. Hence, one cannot compare it to the same weight of a carbine buffer. Regardless, if your rifle runs great, I wouldn’t worry about the ejection pattern. If you just want to play around, get a spare lower with the BCM mk2 system or VLTOR A5. I watched your video. That rifle has very little recoil. Glad to see a fellow NATO member shooting an AR |

I always enjoy reading your replies . I would love to meet for endless chats and buy you a bear or two lol There are no laws against a second lower or a second barrel Yes recoil has come down to a minimum . I need to stop watching vids of American pro shooters and their 6000+ race guns lol I placed an order for an H2 , a H3 and I also have my OEM H2.5... Red sprincon , blue sprince are here so I will play and see what happens In the next month I will receive my new AR10 so this will be another new adventure AR is the way ... New in Greece . Ok just finished testing at the range Initial results looked promising but .... Sprinco blue + H2 or H3 buffer ejection 3 o'clock Sprinco red with H2 ejection 4 o'clock This was with single shots or very slow double taps Then I set an ipsc paper at 35 yards took the timer and started shooting at my race pace is 0.15-0.18 splits There I found out that the rifle will not cycle correctly It would fire the first shot , eject , insert the second round but it would not fire . There is a mark on the primer for the firing pin but it would not fire If I used that round again on its own as a single shot it would work fine The gun would only function properly with blue sprinco and kynshot hydraulic buffer ( 4.2 oz ) ejecting at 2:30 What is going on with the Bleu sprinco and H2-h3 combo ? Is my trigger finger faster than the bolts cycle ? |

It may be too stiff to cycle with your Haenel. I would just use the standard combo you were using before. If it’s a sprinco spring, you need the white or slightly stiffer “hot white”. https://www.sprinco.com/ar-buffer.html |

I would not pay attention to the crazy fast IPSC/USPSA/3 gun shooters lol! You are running a military piston gun. If you want to run faster with less recoil, you need a direct impingement rifle. That is what those guys mostly run. Don’t let HK or Haenel tell you otherwise. What AR-10 did you buy? When you get trigger time, you should post a review on the large caliber section. This website is intoxicating. It will cause you to buy more AR variants and other guns. Already in the mail . Got the hot white Yes before I was running something between an H3 and H2 in weight and a no name no info spring . Very soft Today I noticed that with the sprinco I had no gas in my face. And I mean NO gas . Nothing Also I got a taste of what the rifle could do if it could cycle the blue spring with an H3... The red sprinco and H2 was a shock . It was I was shooting of a bipod .... 4 o'clock ejection and dead flat. Still no proper cycle when under .20 splits The ar10 is a no name brand from Italy called nuova jagger It's a 16'' , 308 win , 1-8 twist with a 15'' handguard Fitted a race trigger and a radian Ambi safety at the factory and already have a radian raptor Ambi , a Magpul Moe K2+ grip and a Magpul angled forgrip Possible setups LPVO with side 45 red dot or an Element helix 6-24*56 Have both on mounts ready to go Rifle should be with me next month https://youtube.com/shorts/QdlO7Sr58lI?si=uJGo9QEJsNKEYyF5 |

Piston guns tend to have a narrower operating window than DI (it's a dirty little secret that guys here in the states found out the past 10-15 years). Without an adjustable gas block, they can be just as if not harder to suppress than a DI AR. Now with all of the flow through "low back pressure" suppressors, the big advantage of using a piston rifle with an adjustable gas block over a DI AR no longer exists (unless you are a Navy SEAL doing over the beach operations lol). That AR-10 sounds like fun. I really wish I could shoot more matches. Here are the two primary ARs I run right now. The first is a Daniel Defense DD5V3, 16" chrome lined CHF barrel. It has an adjustable gas block, but I really don't need to use it. I have a Surefire SOCOM 762 RC2 Mini up front and a S&B Short Dot on top. With my eyes, I appreciate S&B glass. I acquired the rifle around 2022 on sale. It's not a KAC or a LMT, but I have had zero issues over 1000 rounds thus far. I need to shoot it more. It is a 1-1.25 MOA gun with ten round groups and match ammo. Attached File The next is my DD4V7 upper (mid-length gas) on a BCM A5 lower, S&B short dot again, Surefire RC2 SOCOM 556 can. I have 2000+ rounds through it, and ran it in a couple of courses without any issues. I'm running a custom A5H1.5 buffer (weight wise it is between a H1 and H2) thanks to Heavybuffers.com (the site I listed in a post above). Runs great. No gas to the face suppressed unless I overlubed the bolt carrier lol. Attached File I put Geissele SSA triggers in all of my ARs. My only real piston rifle right now (besides my AKs ) are my SCAR 16 and 17s. I haven't dove into B&T or the neutered HK MR 556 we get here stateside. Just not worth it. The SCAR is not as accurate as my ARs, but it runs and runs. They also have adjustable gas blocks.

Nice guns !!! When looking into the AR10 purchase the DD5 V3 and V4 where available in Greece for 3800 euros I love DD but since the 308 would not be my primary rifle I went for something cheaper The Italian firm promises milspec designs and 7075 forger parts plus a cold hammer forged barrel for 2200 euros I am a member of the Greek national guard and also have a HK G3A3 and free access to 7.62 NATO rounds . So I said fuck it why not get an AR10 when ammo is free ... If I use the ar10 as a practical shooting rifle I will keep the carbine buffer tube , play with springs and buffers , possible install an adjustable gas block and then fit a 1-6 LPVO and a 45deg red dot If I go for long range matches I already have a half decent bipod , an armalite A2 buffer kit on the way and an element helix 6-24x56 The one thing that keeps amazing me with the haenel is reliability and accuracy After 10.000+ rounds with cheap 55gr ammo and no rear stock support I shot a 2.1cm group at 100m This is way less than 1 MOA ( 3cm at 100m , 2.5cm at 100 yards ) Yes it's heavy . Right now it's 8.8 pounds fully loaded with my 1-8 LPVO and my 45deg red dot Yes it's not flat shooting as a DI But man has it been reliable . Getting close or passed 12.000 rounds and the only part that failed was the magazine Ambi control And it runs clean . Very clean And yes it appears to have a very narrow window of operation . Especially with no adjustable gas block which if you ask me is unacceptable for a 2800 euro rifle It was the haenel or the DDM4 v7 pro when I made a purchase. Back then the DD was on back order and a 3100 price tag and the haenel was here in Greece ready for sale I believe that competition wise I made a huge mistake going for the haenel The V7 pro would have been a dream gun for matches https://nuovajager.it/prodotto/nj-ar10-mkiii-16mmr-multiradial/ |

I have crappy eyes, so I am sensitive to eyebox issues. The only thing that beats it is the new Kahles 1-8x34 model, but I have a Kahles 1-6x and 3-18x. Both Kahles had to go back to Austria for repairs from just general use . S&B is pricing themselves out of the American market. I hope the hell Trump's tariffs don't affect European made optics. My next project is buying a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun (I want an Accuracy International after reading David Walls's biography https://www.milehighshooting.com/accuracy-international-it-started-in-the-shed-dave-walls-autobiography/), and I was going to put either another S&B 6-36 on top vs a Zero Compromise scope. It's funny how we Americans crave to buy legit Haenel or H&K chrome lined short stroke piston ARs, when we cannot get them stateside. In Europe, you have great choices minus the EU's magazine capacity restrictions. For 5.56, I would just stick with your Haenel unless you go full blown into ISPC competitions and need super fast rifles. Like you pointed out, short stroke piston guns run cleaner than DI in 5.56 NATO. Cleaning my AKs or a SCAR are far easier than my Geissele or Daniel Defense ARs after running them suppressed. It gets disgusting after awhile. Slip 2000 EWL is your friend when it comes to running AR-15 DI platforms 1000 rounds or more between cleanings. In .308, the AR-10 platform suppresses better than the 5.56 variant. I don't think my DD5 gets nearly as dirty as my DD4, but I may be smoking crack. Who knows. It's a different animal and the round lends itself to a DI system. I really think piston variant ARs are unnecessary for .308 gas guns. They don't have the same issues as DI 5.56 AR variants. The bigger issue with AR-10s, since the caliber is larger, is durability of the bolts, extractors, ejectors and barrel life. Greek National Guard? Free ammo? You have a G3? We hate you. Getting back on topic, I would just keep your Haenel stock then. If you are running thousands of rounds through it without an issue, stick with the current set up. Who cares if it is slightly over gassed. I can't tell you the number of times I have seen "gamer" handguns and rifles at matches choke. I try to keep my stuff "mil-spec" as possible. I value reliability over speed. |

Click on the store link above. I'm not sure what they offer for international members. I pay $20 a year for a bronze membership. It allows me to search archived threads and upload pictures for posts. When you join, you can click on "select image" and upload what you want to a post off of your hard drive. That's how I post my photos. An IPSC match in Mongolia? Holy crap. That is a hell of a trek. They have good flyfishing there: https://mongoliarivers.com/ Just watch out for whatever wall you build (from South Park): ![]() South Park Clip: Mongolians? |

Haenel (or rather those former H&K engineers) did their homework. It's a shame they don't give you better support. They are shooting themselves in the foot. |

if haenel cannot deliver a bit of Greek diy will get the job done both measure 13.75 One is 3d printed and weighs 4oz. I used a premium material that can take up to 300deg C and its holding just fine The other is the original 10.5 with a 3.25 HK 416 handguard donor ( premium quality 6061AL airsoft replica ) Weight 1 pound https://i.ibb.co/BK3nn1XN/dc0e391e-c451-4531-b8c9-a74a8ac8f00a.jpg https://i.ibb.co/qLbr2ywx/3bb56b5a-9cc5-4dc2-a629-cd4d9f32ad94.jpg |

He has both Steiner and S&B scopes . One is 5-25 and the other is a 6-36 What a machine ...he has a 338 barrel on the way |

Guys I need your help . Very difficult to diagnose on a forum but every bit helps For the past 2 years my haenel has fired more than 11-12k with no issues . All of them have been GGG 55/62gr I have not serviced or swapped anything . I did a proper maintanance check and all seem to be in order. Firing pin , cam pin bsg all like new So in the past couple of months I started getting light primer strikes especially on the second shot of a quick double tap on paper If I refeed the unfired bullet it will fire The bullets have indication of pin contact on the primer but they do not ignite Do you think it's ammo , buffer and spring or any other worn part that may cause this It is not easy to find and use different ammo to compare so I am running blind Any help welcome Forgot to mention that the rifle has a single stage Haenel competition trigger that was fitted when the rifle was still new and it is adjustable with a single screw on the trigger show |
| Doesn't your Haenel have a special firing pin spring with the firing pin? I would also check your hammer spring on your competition trigger. You may need a new firing pin spring or hammer spring after that many rounds. I would also check your firing pin to make sure it is still in spec. Got pics? |

All fixed . It turn our I have messes the tuning of my match trigger . It was wrong but for some reason it was working . I am new to AR s so learning as I go I couple of you tube videos on single stage trigger and problem solved So I am back on the blue spring , hydraulic buffer running 0.16 splits on 30 yards . Also perfect ejection at 3 o'clock One think I noticed is that my piston rings have a lot of wear . Haenel is nowhere to be found so I am after a new set of 3 piston rings Piston measured 9mm and rings measure 10mm but they could be worn . Original diameter unknown Can I use rings from a DI rifle ie BCM ? Just in case I have a new firing pin , a new extractor coming but I would like to swap the 3 piston rings as well Any help there ? Found them in Europe but no stock as usual https://www.aawee.fi/en/parts-and-accessories/haenel-cr223-gas-piston-rings-3pcs-gas-piston-rings/p/102026/#description |
Haenel CR223 and B&T BT-15 (Page 3 of 4)
AR Sponsor

) are my SCAR 16 and 17s. I haven't dove into B&T or the neutered HK MR 556 we get here stateside. Just not worth it. The SCAR is not as accurate as my ARs, but it runs and runs. They also have adjustable gas blocks.
