I have a 20” AR308, that I would like to buy some descent glass for. I can’t see shooting too far past 100 yards in my hunting environment, so I don’t need too much magnification. Just something pretty durable, and holds zero. I’ve even thought about another cog, I’m just not sure if I want to go that route, or not. I have used iron sights on this build for years, but I think I want an optic. |

My man. I’m not sure if this’ll stay on, but it is very nice. Kinda big/heavy and I don’t need 10x for elk. But the glass is excellent. Could be due to the 34mm tube? I don’t know. It’s a Griffin 1x10, and their 34mm mount. I’ll probably try something lighter, 1x4…maybe up to 6x. I got this Ruger 308 just for elk , and I rarely shoot over 200 at them. Usually much closer. That scope was relatively cheap, under 500 a couple years ago. Attached File I’ve tagged a couple elk with a 16” 308, great round. This one had a IOR straight 4 power. I'm not up to date on the current top brands, but my favorite hunting scopes are Bushnell Elite ( used to be Bausch & Lomb) in 2-7 or 1-4. The rain guard coating works well during our big game seasons. I like the large field of view at low magnification for quick shots in thick brush. The higher magnifications can be critical to count antler points on a buck. |

For a true hunting scope you can't do better than Meopta 1.7-10x42. Alpha glass and a decent size objective for great low light gathering and a simple lit reticle for a 100 yd zero. Also 20 oz and fairly compact. If you want more of a tactical scope that can double as hunting and banging steel out to distances the Leupold Mark 4HD 2.5-10x42 (30mm) M5C3 FFP Illum. TMR Riflescope 183738 or the Steiner H6Xi 2-12x42mm STR-MIL FFP Riflescope 8782 would be great also. AACOG TA11 or 110 would work well also. |
