In 5.7x28mm w/ a CMMG lower.

Return to zero isn't an issue if one mounts a red dot on the forend.

OP, were you the engineer who originally posted about this design here?  Care to tell us briefly who the owner of the product is now, and who it was a year ago?  What happened?

For those wondering we have had 0 issues as far as return to 0's with the way our system locks up which is the big + with it in general.  We are in the middle of having third parties test/prove are claims as well and you will obviously see more of this once they hit shelves and people post their own reviews confirming this.  We are excited about it and has been a work in progress bringing this to market properly.

In regards to your second question, while FoldAR did invent, design, and manufacture F&D's XAR Invicta, many upgrades and design enhancements throughout the FoldAR platform have been incorporated since, making the FoldAR a much higher quality and robust system than the XAR Invicta. At the same time we have brought the costs down substantially from the XAR Invicta production line.

We are the original inventors and patent holders for this amazing technology (US Patent Number 9,995,556). However, in early 2017, F&D was provided conditional licensing rights (by FoldAR's parent company) to the technology but F&D failed to meet its basic contractual obligations. This resulted in termination of the license. As a result of this experience, we realized that the only company who could bring this product to market correctly would be us, which led to the birth of the FoldAR brand. Coincidentally, the FoldAR parent company has been in the business of designing and manufacturing high-end AR’s for over a decade, so this venture is no new territory.

FoldAR maintains exclusive ownership to all manufacturing equipment, processes, and intellectual property rights to produce the folding firearm products. F&D is no longer producing the folding firearm products, but is simply selling off the last of its remaining inventory. With all rights and capabilities being in control of FoldAR, we are able to bring a higher level product to the market for a much lower price. And this will be our long-term objective and commitment to the consumer.

Yeah, it's an awesome design, but those were some Cadillac price points.  @ $800ish for an upper, I can aspire to replacing my SUB-2000.

You need a DI upper in.357 SIG and 9x25mm Dillon.  Glad to hear it will remain in production.

The easy way to assure zero is the same way you can run a Ruger PCC takedown - red dot on the forend/bbl, magnifier on the upper receiver.

IIRC from the previous threads...

It's a proprietary upper, forward rail, and bbl extension.  I think that's it.  Maybe the gas tube.  They did say you couldn't use piston systems, but I think that could be finangled.

I'm thinking a CMMG bolt & carrier, and a lower that takes .22 TCM, 5.7x28mm, .357 SIG, or 10x25mm Dillon mags, w/ a pinned & welded suppressor to take it out to 16".  Swaps from pistol to rifle w/ installation of a carbine stock, ammo compatibility w/ my CC piece, and better than 2100 fps out the muzzle, folding to the same length as a SUB-2000, but can carry it into Texas liquor stores.

For those wondering on the weight(lbs) of the rails. We took just a typical AR upper so everyone can see the weight difference versus our uppers.  These are minus the BCG and charging handle.

Standard AR Upper

FoldAR  Upper

Then  the weight difference on our Gen 1 Keymod rails that are made from a billet.

Our Gen 2 M-Lok rails which are made from a forging. As you can see is only less then an ounce weight difference.

That said, I still want to see a return-to-zero test.

Q: DOES THE FOLDAR PLATFORM ACCEPT "STANDARD" AR-15 PARTS?

A: Yes! The FoldAR platform was built around maintaining as much standardization with "mil-spec" components as possible and is compatible with most of your standardized AR-15 parts. The only proprietary operational parts are the upper receiver, forearm, barrel extension, gas tube, and locking lever. We offer parts for individuals, gunsmiths, and OEM’s who wish to assemble or turn their own barrels for acceptance into the FoldAR platform.

The chambers are headspaced at +.002" which is pretty much the bottom limit for optimal accuracy while retaining loading/ejection reliability.
Chambers and muzzles are within .003" TIR.
These units are designed to achieve 1moa after a break-in period, operator and ammo experimentation.

For maximum precision, other things you can do beyond that is spec out a custom barrel that is hand lapped and custom profiled.
Contrary to some current gimmickry marketing trends, we dont recommend any cold-hammer forged barrels for precision applications.
Then if your smith is any good you can have him orient your bore curve and gas port to TDC.
These get pretty expensive ($400-$800) and can get heavy, so we don't go that route for general consumer level products at these prices.
However, for such applications we can provide barrel extensions for your smith or custom barrel maker.

Yesterday FoldAR hit another milestone with TEEX testing results, which are to be published by TEEX in the coming few weeks.
https://teexpdc.com/teex-tested-2/
TEEX is a State of Texas agency, part of the Texas A&M University System.

Bottom line takeaway:

1) No measurable point of impact shifting between firing sessions with multiple deployments (fold/unfold cycles) between sessions.
2) Consistent 1 MOA accuracy.
3) Safe to shoot, even when lever/hook is inadvertently disengaged.

FoldAR is currently shipping orders for Christmas delivery, with limited quantities available!
All 223 products are available, 300BLK is limited, specialty calibers are on backorder.

Yes, from my review we have a string of nearly 20 emails back and forth.
You asked a lot of questions which were answered, then you had a local dealer apply for an account to receive a discount.
We rejected that dealer application because the business did not meet our dealer criteria, as he was only seeking to purchase one unit in order to get around MSRP for a single retail customer.

Because we are very busy trying to supply distribution and have various outlets selling our product, we do not actively engage in direct sales or individual sales inquiries at this time.

I would recommend you trying Optics Planet or Brownell's if youre looking for a folding upper deal under MSRP.
Optics Planet has some in stock and Brownell's just received stock last week and should have those up soon.

We arent selling complete firearms anymore except double FoldAR's, and once those are gone this summer, we will just be selling uppers combined with DeadFoot folding stock as a kit package.

Our website, operator's manual, and FAQs sections has lots of information... so start there.
As for compliance with your liberal state gun laws, we wont generally help there since its too much to monitor and keep up with.
We can sell anyone an upper in any state, but its going to be up to you to configure it within the bounds of your laws before connecting it to your lower.

Double folder is pretty wide, but a pistol in 300" where the bbl was the right length for it to fold to the same length at the brace would be a pretty awesome backpack gun. This product is new to me...and of interest!

So the back of that dead foot carrier does not go to the back of the receiver, doesnt the action spring get caught on the edge of the receiver extension?  I dont really understand how those springs and that the little piece fits together.

Anyway, how long of a barrel, measured in the bore, is same length as the receivers w/ a carbine receiver extension installed?

Any chance of a LH model?

On the DFA parts, the springs come out the back before trying to unpin the lower from the upper. No tools required.

A 12" barrel is the ideal length for a single fold with standard buffer tube installed... then of course fitted with a pistol brace for non-NFA.
These 12" barrels will be available in a couple months.

Not a bad idea.  I guess on a forged type receiver you would have to basically cut a hole above the front of the ejection port for the cam pin, and the come up w some way to make the ejection port stay closed w/o the detent.

Correct, moving towards uppers/kits only. There are already enough makers of standard lowers, and every AR consumer seems to have a few on hand at any moment's notice anyways.
As sold in the kit form, the DFA stock will be user-installed.
Brownell's has them in the kit configuration for a double build.

Yes with the stock all the way collapsed, 12.5" barrel flush with an plain A2 comp at 1.75" long.
From the feedback over the past few months, I'm sure this will end up being the most sought-after configuration right behind the double configuration.
