| What is your favorite punch for installing gas tube pins? Yesterday I used a roll pin starter set that has a adequate 3/32 starter punch but it has a 3/32 cup punch that spread the pin badly. The pins are 5/16 so I am looking to get something that can knock them in without destroying them. |

The gas tube roll pin is 5/64" in diameter. Use a 3/32" roll pin punch for installation, as the nipple on the inside of the roll pin punch will support the pin to keep you from crushing the roll pin inward and the punch from slipping off the roll pin. The larger outside diameter of the 3/32" roll pin punch will support the roll pin so you don't mushroom it outward. Both Brownells and Midway have several different 5/64" gas tube roll pin punch starter punchers, which help to hold the roll pin to get it started upon the first few taps, then switch out to the roll pin punch to tap it fully flush to the hole.
