Hi there, I am new to this forum and normally you can find me on long range hunting or snipers hide. Many years ago I competed in 2 gun and 3 gun. It was a little easier when someone else was paying for the ammo. I recently decided to buy a PCC in 9mm for a number of reasons and I would like to poke your brains to minimize the learning curve. Build & Ammo: JP5 11” barrel 1:10 Eotech 3” above bore Silencer Co QDC and Omega Can Ammo 147 gr ( l have not yet tested velocity but I expect it is around 1050 to 1100 FPS) I tried the 7 yard zero and was 14” high at 50 yards. I changed to a 25 yard zero with the following results. 7 yards -2” 25 yards 0 50 yards 0 100 yards - 4” Any recommendations on a better combat zero? I like the 147 gr since that is what I have been shooting with my glocks for years. |

Welcome, fellow firearms enthusiast! I'm not an expert, I just want to share my feelings on the subject. I would zero a 9mm pc at 25 yards, based primarily on the ballistics (limitations) of the round. Especially the heaviest bullet available. A pcc is a great tool for home defense. Most of us are grabbing our bedside handgun when there's a bump in the night, and the pcc is going to be a better version of that handgun in every single way except being able to stuff it in a holster. But that's what slings are for. I'm in a standard suburban house. It would require some exceedingly rare circumstances for me to need to make effective hits at anything approaching 50 yards. Never mind 100. I'd be going to prison if I was making that kind of shot around here. 25 yards is the sweet spot around here. For you, that might be different. But I want to know, without doing math, that within that 10-35 yard window, I just have to put my dot where I want to and bang away on the trigger. Why do you have a 3" height over bore for your eotech? Seems excessive. Night vision user, perhaps? Lots of people consider a lot of height over bore a problem for long distance shooting, but it can cause confusion at short ranges as well, which is the most likely use case. And it complicates the zero situation. For those fantasy scenarios where I will need to take out zombies greater than 50 yards away, I'm grabbing my 13.7 ar with the LPVO or my 16" gun with the 2-10. If the zombies are waaaay tf over there or hiding behind something, the large frame ar will come out. That will buy me some time to get the mortar emplacements and mini guns set up and operational. You do have mortars and mini guns just in case, right? |

Lower brand and mag style Trigger BCG buffer tube style/buffer spring/buffer...include weight of the buffer And regarding the zero..... If you are grouping 3-5 shots in a 2" circle from 25-30 yards with 147grn through an 11" barrel.... I would say that's pretty good. It may tighten up the groups a little farther out with some tweaking, but don't expect clover leaves at 50 yards. |

I played around with Hornady’s ballistic computer and got the following results. I looked at several bullets and the Hornady 147 grain FMJ had the best BC of .212. I used 1100 FPS for best possible results with a 3” height over bore. About anything is going to be a little more drop but you get the idea. 147 grain Sport Master JHP BC .157 125 grain FMJ Tournament Master BC .115 Sig V Crown JHP BC .162 Hornady 147 grain FMJ RN, BC .212 Speer 147 grain TMJ FP BC .208 H 147 FMJ 25 yd zero 3” over bore 50 - 1.1” 75 - 0.1” 100 -2.9” 125 -8.2” 150 -15.9 175 -26.0 50 yard Zero H 147 grain FMJ 3” over bore 25 -.5” 50 0.0 75 -1.5” 100 -5.1” 125 -11.0” 150 -19.2” 175 -29.8” 75 yard zero H 147 grain FMJ 3” over bore 25 0.0 50 -1.0” 75 0.0 100 -3.1” 125 -8.5” 150 -16.2” 175 -26.4” 100 yard zero H 147 grain FMJ 3” over bore 25 -.7 50 -2.6 75 -2.3 100 0.0 125 -4.6 150 -11.5 175 -20.9 After looking at these results 75 yards would be worth testing with your load and firearm. Realistically you won’t have enough accuracy from the bench to shoot tight enough to detect small differences in trajectory. I used to shoot steel plates a lot and I got used to the hold overs with pistols and 22 LR AR-15 to get pretty consistent hits out to 135 yards on steel. Holding over for 4-6 inches was pretty easy with practice. |

I greatly appreciate your responses…. To answer a question above the entire rifle is JP with the delayed roller block. Yes, the most expensive AR I own but holly cow it shoots amazing. I do have my Silencer co Omega suppressor on it and it does not require hearing protection. To a point made above, when I consult on home defense w those with little or no training I generally recommend a pump shotgun. In short, it won’t fail, needs little maintenance and if you chamber a round and the actor does not run they need to be shot. For me, I purchased this PCC to hone my skill set and for home defense as ammo is easy to get and much less expensive— which may not make sense to everyone. I shoot 75 gr Tap out of my perimeter AR and my longer range AR likes 77 gr OTM —. Many a coyote took one of these pills and a subsequent dirt nap. I also have a 300 blk out which is integrally suppressed (for sale if interested). All of these are great rifles but expensive to shoot and train with… not to mention for home defense you risk taking out your neighbor in the next house. Also, yes, my Glocks are close. Back to PCC, I went ahead and did a zero at 25 yards with the following results: 7 yards -2” 25 yards 0 50 yards 0 100 yards -4” I am going to dig into the results from the ballistics above (many thanks!) and fine tune my zero. I will update the thread with what works the best for me. When I come down from the cabin I need to grab my lab radar and figure out the velocity. |
