My bolt is not releasing the spent case... Double feed malfunctions necessitated looking at the bolt, ejector and extractor interface... We the bolt in hand, spent case under the extractor compressing the ejector the case won't release with ease. The hang up is easily seen when pressing in and out on the ejector with a shell A bit of brass shavings found in the ejector tube. New extractor, new extractor spring, new ejector rod, new ejector spring (slightly longer than the old), and still it wants to hang up when inspecting by hand. No doubt it will malfunction during firing. Could the o ring be causing too much extractor tension? Is the bolt face too narrow? Am I looking at having to get a new bolt?  |

Perplexing, i checked one of mine and it will hold the round like that if inserted manually but a light tap or shake will pop it free. I would start by checking the ejector, which it sounds like you did then replace the extractor which you also did. Could it possibly be the locking lugs being too rough on the inside? You are right in suspecting the bolt. |

Thanks. I felt a cylindrical bead of steel around the bolt. Enough to catch the rim of the case and make it stick. When successful extraction occured this bead would shave slithered of the brass that would find its way into the ejector tube making the ejector rod sluggish. I hit it with a dremel stone. The hang up is gone but I wonder if I ground out too much material?

This will help keep it from sticking in it's hole when it's driven below flush. It appears one of yours already is beveled and one isn't. |
Ditto on deburing the ends of the claws (leave the center of claw sharp) Debur the ends of the rim relief channel,  Little cold bluing in the end,  And may want to pull the extractor, to clean up its bolt channel, as well as debur the roll pin channel in the extractor as well.  The other one to check, make sure there is enough room under the extractor claw to bolt face, to allow the rim to rotate on the bolt face during lock up and unlock to begin with. Hence bottom of claw edge/ledge, should be just slightly under face of bolt to start with, and the cut top of edge on the bolt face, does not have a bur that is catching the rim face on bottom of brass.

Not really, and all of this is just the basics as your doing the build, so you don't have problems in the end. And yes, over the decades have written novels on steps on the site that you check as your doing a build , since building a rig is not as play and plug as one would think. Fact is, will no longer buy a built B&C anymore (just get the parts and assembly it myself), since just too many that have leaks/problems going on from the start. |
