I bought a JAKL in 5.56 and 300 blk when they first came out. I've enjoyed them both but now I want to install FRT triggers in both of them. After researching it a little I've found out the FRT won't work with the first batch off the production line. But PSA did a rolling change to the bolt carrier and the newer ones will work. Are you guys trying to be like Sig? Ive learned it's not worth it to be an early adopter. I was already a little aggravated that they changed the charging handle after I bought mine. Now this. |

You realize that every manufacturer of any type of item...whether its guns, cell phones, toasters, Magic 8 balls, butterfly nets, etc...make rolling product improvements, right? I have two JAKL's. My first one had the original charging handle...I liked the new one better, so I bought the updated handle as a replacement. That's how manufacturers keep people interested in their products...they keep making updates/improvements that spur or rekindle interest. I have three HK VP9's...and HK recently came out with an updated version (A1) with additional features. Should I curse HK for updating their product? No...if I want one, I'll buy the newer version and sell an old one. You were completely happy with your JAKL's until a few years later when you decided you wanted to install a new trigger that has now become popular in the interim. PSA obviously realized at some point in the past that this was a change that people wanted and made it. But you think PSA should have made the change before you bought your JAKL's, and before you even knew you wanted an FRT? If you want a newer JAKL with the features you now desire, sell the older ones and buy newer ones. Except undertand that future JAKL's will have even more updated features that aren't available on the current ones...so you may want to wait until those come out so that you're not re-posting this again in a coupe of years. |

I prefer the original charging handle. Also, when the jakl came out FRTs were simply a pipe dream. Which one did you try OP? AS Designs had one at The Gathering that they used on a jakl. https://activesafetydesigns.com/jakl/ |

I haven't tried it on the JAKL yet. I found out that the FRT and super safeties will only work with the new bolt carrier profile. Start at the 6:00 time. ![]() You can now Super Safety your PSA JAKL (FRT Time) |

So OP thought it was worth the price when he bought an item. Then a newer version of that item came out thats better than the old one, and OP wishes he'd waited? If you always want to have the features of the latest model, you have to do like the iphone fans and buy a new one every time it comes out. If you think you have buyer's remorse, what do you think about that teenager who sold a kidney to buy an ipad and a macbook in 2011? |

1) OP buys early the newest device available. 2) OP's purchase provides money to the device makers so they continue production and product refinement. 3) Device makers improve product to be more versatile. 4) OP sees the product gets better and wishes he wasn't part of the buyers that purchased early. Without your initial purchase, and that of others like you, at step 1, steps 2-4 never happen. You'd never have the thing you desire now. Have you never seen a movie about time travel? |

We better move the JAKL sub forum out of the AR-15 forum then! When I say AR-15 type upper I meant one that will work on an AR lower. Maybe was a poor choice of words. But doesn't change the fact that it should work with full auto lowers and binary triggers. |

I'm not well versed on FRTs or the JAKL, so can someone help me out on understanding how the malfunction goes? When you use an older JAKL with FA or an FRT, what happens? Does semi auto setting work at all? In FA/FR does it turn into "bang, click", or does it go semi- instead of full- auto? Or other? If it functions with the safety set to semi-auto, and the malfunction is it doesn't take advantage of the FA/FR addition functionality, then I'd like to point out that the quote above would also be claiming that bolt-action AR uppers should be able to run in FA/FR on FA/FR lowers. Cleary that statement is illogical. Maybe a better ideological statement would be: "Any AR-15 upper designed for semi-auto lowers should also be compatible with full-auto & FRT lowers." But, there's a problem with this more limited statement, too. There's this disturbingly populous class of people who wear flag pins on their lapels and blouses and professionally blather and tell others what to do, solemnly preserving the fruits of their labors in meticulously organized and categorized documents promulgated digitally and physically. (Their class name rhymes with "morticians".) And in their capricious flights of fancy, they often issue their dictates about specifics of mechanics they do not fathom. Concretely: previous to BATFE giving Colt the OK to sell AR-15s with M16 cut bolt-carriers around 2005, they were producing and selling ARs with the "AR-15 cut" carriers. So, there's plenty of those non-FA/FR compatible semi-auto uppers out there, and have been for a long time. Additionally, if someone is doing R&D on a new AR product, if they don't have access to a FA lower, how were they supposed to design for FA? Even where they are legal, and even where FRTs are legal, neither is cheap. For initial product designs that are on tight budgets, not only is there a cost to using multiple FA/FRT lowers during design and testing to ensure compatibility, but the needs of FA are more demanding than SA in their materials and their design due to higher temps and higher ROF. Especially as you leave the standard parts behind, it is, from an engineering perspective, much easier and much cheaper to ensure functionality with semi-auto lowers than with FA. Why go through the cost and effort if you're not sure you're product is even gonna take off? And why risk having to sell at a higher price that might make your product unaffordable? Big companies with established brand names can afford to to that for their first runs. But a huge percentage of the companies making AR parts are small to medium sized businesses with a single location. It would be awesome if everything were compatible with everything else. But that's just not how things shake out. |

The JAKL, CMMG Dissent and others do not have this function without additional parts. |
