Mine is nitraded and as you can see the colors on the upper and lower match pretty good.

The DSA upper receiver is hard anodized; The barrel and chamber are nitride treated. The difference in color you are seeing in the receivers; are the variations of anodization from one mfg to the other. Plus some of the lowers I see also have a teflon coating over the anodized surface which will make them deeper black. I built 4 of these rifles; 3 on YHM lowers and one on a DPMS lower. The DPMS matches the anodized finish on the DSA upper almost perfectly. The YHM lowers are more gray in color and the match isn't quite as close. Color match is somewhat irrelevant to me because even if you buy a complete rifle from any one mfg there will be color variations between anodized and parkerized surfaces. The same is true with the DSA nitride treated steel; there is some variation in the color between the two different materials. Nitride tends to be darker than parkerized surfaces; so color match between the aluminum receiver and the steel barrels is much closer in the DSA uppers. The above pics you guys are showing are of anodized upper and lower receivers. The nitriding applies to steel; anodization applies to aluminum. Trying to get perfect or even close matches on these builds will be like "pissin' in the wind" ...... it'll be all over the place

But it really isnt that bothering.

As far as home-defense/shooting random shit/shooting hogs with 72 gr bullets, this rifle will do more than its job. Anybody who tries to boast about a rifle that is marginally better at best in the conditions to which it is required in my case can go drink bleach, but it's nice having a very high end product that is sort of the 'crown jewel' of a gun collection |

Pictures of the FDE MBUS look a little 'odd', so I stuck with black.. even though I have FDE grip, stock and mags. I have a troy MFG drop in to go on. I am more involved with overall weight for a cosmetic part (i have no plans to mount anything on the rails) .. my accuracy needs much more training then me seeing the difference from FF or not. |

You do know that magpul is releasing mid and rifle MOE's this year right? So far everything I have added to mine has been magpul, MI and now VLTOR. I think I have figured out that I like VLTOR's stocks better than anything else. I may just sell my upper to finance either a new build or to buy one of the CL 1X7 DSA uppers. My thing with the HG's is that I like my rifle to be tight and not make a million noises when I move around with it. This is the latest result of my tinkering:

I have found that all of their products are top shelf; including their sights. Every build I complete will include their products; especially their handguards. They're the best as far as I am concerned. Accuse me of being a Magpul koolaid drinker..... thats okay....... better than being a colt koolaid drinker. DSA and Magpul all the way baby

My DSA upper and (mostly) CDD lower has become my favorite AR. Couldn't resist dressing it up some. Got the Foilage green MOE stuff on sale. God help me, but I really like that color. Pic. 
I moved the black MOE stuff from it over to my Oly Plinker. (Laugh all you want, but that Plinker is the most accurate rifle I have. I'll never sell it.) |
