One year ago, I saw an ad for a Colt M16 A1, a real graal gun for me. I called the seller and we met quickly.
He was a soon to be retired 57 y.o. Lt. Col. in the Swiss army. He likes his toys, he also showed me a Thompson M1, a Sig 551 commando, G18, Norinco 56, all full auto, and a multitude of other stuff. He bought the M16 over 20 years ago, shot it FA a few times at the military range, but hasn’t shot it in ages. We haggled a bit, he wanted $ 2500 for it, we settled on $ 2100. I live in Switzerland so prices are different. Some obvious wear on it, but rifing is strong, doesn’t seem to have shot tens of thousands of full auto rounds. Wonder where that thing has been. (Look at the stamps by the pivot pin).

I’ve shot it full auto once so far, it ran flawlessly but the barrel heated and took that yellow hue since there’s hardly any finish left on it. I’ll be happy to hear any infos one may have, year of birth (1972?), model number (603?) and any other stuff. |

Meanwhile here in the states the “Colt” M16a1 reissue is going for $2500 A few years back I bought a full auto Thompson 1928A1 made by Savage in 1942 at an auction. Paid $ 2200, the modern semi auto version was sold $ 2700. That was an easy choice. |

If it ever went to Israel it's a miracle it left, I bet they still have Mausers and Enfields in reserve. There’re some NOS M16 menusar carbines and M14s around.. its amazing how they survived until 2019 in like new conditions |

The metal and finish wear on the lower receiver around the pivot and take-down pins indicate to me that the rifle was used in a training environment where speed in repeated disassembly and reassembly was manifest.
The "star" stamp looks like an Aussie proof mark. Aussie SAS training rifle, maybe? ETA: Upon further review....markings look Hebrew. Israeli surplus I suppose. |
