I have a Colt LE6920 with standard hand guards that I would like to put a light on. I would appreciate any suggestions on the best way to do that considering the standard hand guards I have on it.

Look for a Canadian diemacio front sight post tri-rail.

This one is my favorite:

FSB Rail

This one work well with M4 RAS + Laser(clone points too). I can mount the light on here, out of the way:

Tri-Rail

I wish someone made a quality tri rail(not as big as the Ergo).
