Colt 6920 No Roll Marks (Page 2 of 3)
| It would be a simple matter to buy a regular Colt receiver and swap it in, saving the 'collectible' one for later. But I think it would be a fool's errand, because its never going to be worth much - certainly not in the OP's lifetime. I would use the gun as it is, in whatever way I wished, but I would make sure to keep it. |
|
You know, I would normally say shoot it.....but this seems like a pretty unique thing. I've never seen it or heard of it on AR15's.
I wouldn't shoot it. I'd tuck this one away and sit on it. At the very least, I'd keep the lower virgin. Who else has ever seen something like this? |

Personally were it mine. I'd keep it NIB. I've never seen anything like that before.
There are some serious Colt collectors out there, that would love to own it. That'd like finding a 1955 DD, to a coin collector. Wish one of my lowers was like that. I think getting a letter of authenticity, from Colt would be a smart idea. You lucky.

| I am a young 22 year old collector and this is my first AR so I am pretty happy with all these comments. I would like to get a letter of authenticity from Colt and keep it for sure. I have an old Smith and Wesson model 29 I keep it great condition as well. Do I just call Colt for a letter? |

Go to a Gun Store that sells Colts---maybe the one you bought the Colt at(unless WalMart or such) and have them to help you verify this mistake and with getting a Letter from Colt. Colt should have the Serial Number in their Archive to verify as to FFL they sent the Rifle to for the sale. DO NOT send that Rifle/Lower Receiver back to Colt in any way. They will see the mistake and you've lost your Rifle. Take and send Pictures through Fax. Get this Rifle inspected and verified by your LGS also, and get a comfirmation letter from them, and a copy of the Sales Bill from the Store if you don't already have one. Remove Lower and replace with another, and lock up with all the paperwork. |

I've only seen something like this but not the same model name and caliber markings, it was just the LE restricted markings on the right side magwell was missing on a member's new LE series carbine, this was way before the factory actually removed the restricted markings in 2011. I remembered the member sold just the lower half with a pretty good profit. |

Keep it. Don't listen to all the "PC" guys that are most likely trying to show throw the ATF off the trail of all their illegal crap they have hidden in their safe! LoL
I have a WWII "lunch box" gun....it is an all correct war time Colt 1911A1, WITHOUT a serial number. I let the great Bruce Canfield look it over...He gave it two thumbs up. Should I run down to the local ATF Mafia office and let them record the gun and stamp a serial number on the frame? I think not. No biggie. Its a good piece. Hang on to it. |

I wouldn't even contact Colt unless you want to lose it. It's missing the model and cal markings, so it does not have all identifying markings for Colt to successfully release it into commerce.
Unless model and cal is somewhere other than magwell?? Anyhow awesome score man, that is cool!!! Makes you wonder about Colts QC...
|
I cut it twice, and it's still short.

Colt has previously marked "M4" above gas tube hole on upper receiver. This was to denote M4 feed ramp uppers vs. non-M4 feed ramp uppers. If so marked, could count as a model. OP, is your upper so marked? |

Just to pile on...I wouldn't take it back to the dealer nor would I contact Colt. Once you let it out of your hands it's as good as gone.
ETA- While you're at it, check and see if the selector switch will flip to another position past "Fire". |

| I would strip the lower, get a new one and build it back up to fire and keep that back. If you decide to sell it, build it back up. You could eventually get enough to buy 2. |
I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me and say "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals.

It is extremely rare hence it being collectible.

Kind of like misprinted currency, double struck coins, etc. People want it because it's one of a kind, no one else has it or likely will ever have it, and was never meant to even make it to the public. Now had the defect been a giant hole in the side of the receiver then I would agree with you, no one wants that. But something missing like a rollmark when it isn't offered for sale that way is a different story. I see the cool factor of it, obviously a lot of other members here see it too. The fact that you don't care makes no difference, I'm sure he's gotten several messages offering more than the MSRP on a new 6920. This is especially true because it's a Colt. If it were a Del-Ton lower no one would likely give a shit. |
