I have three different setups: 1. Aimpoint mount/M68(Comp M2) on a XM4 clone(pre 9/11 sof carbine) 2. Trijicon RX01NSN on a 2003ish A2 rifle length copy of what some marines were pictured carrying in IRQ/Africa 3. Meprolight M21(most modern, not really clone specific unless you're doing a IDF type setup if that matters to you) All are about the same length, height varies by optic. The Aimpoint has the ability to adjust optic height by changing the ring height if you prefer lower 1/3 or absolute. The other two are fixed/no adjustability. I prefer absolutely for carry handles, lower 1/3 for flat tops or modern optics. Of the 3 I like the RX01NSN, its light and easy to use, only limitation is the tritium is gone(due to age, they quit making them 20+ years ago) so looking from shade/dark to light/outside the dot can wash out easily, in that case use the optic tube like a big ghost ring. The Aimpoint is most reliable because of the brightness settings but does need batteries. |
