I posted this over in my Official Free Float FSB Builds Revival Picture Thread, but when I stumbled across this gem of a CMR thread, I knew I had to post here, too. I really hope we can keep this one going. Avoid the archive, folks!
Here's a little sneak preview of what's on deck in my little shop of horrors... I decided to shed a few ounces off my Mini-Recce masterpiece, but felt I needed to stick with my old mistress, Centurion Arms. Before shots, for posterity... Now, here's what I'm thinking next. Rail is a 14.25" Gen 2 CMR with Midlength cutout. The A.R.M.S. 41-B doesn't quite fit yet. Oh, but it most certainly will... IT WILL! (Planning on some fine-tuned dremel work for the base of the gas block, and even possibly adding some small relief cuts on bottom of rail if there is still contact.) This is going to be epic. |

Afternoon gents...looking to build an M5 in 6.5 creedmoor later this year, and was interested in this rail.
Anyone able to fit a SLR adjustable Sentry 8 (.875) gas block in their 7.62 CMR rail? Seems like too tight a fit: SLR website says the Sentry 8 Needs 1.35" Minimum ID. Centurion website states the 7.62 CMR has an Inside Diameter of 1.441" |

Thanks kindly @InfamousAK for hopping in to help. Its greatly appreciated :) It will be based on either a SAN TAN billet Ambi upper/lower or an SLR billet Ambi upper/lower. 14.5" lightweight pinned with a VG6 Gamma & CAGE device. Its kind of a Recce style I suppose (lightweight barrel though) and will wear a 1-6 or 1-8 LPVO. Its going to have kind of a futuristic, Star Warsy, or blastery type look to it. Its going to be nice & lightweight (Hopefully to offset some of the weight from the LPVO and mount) but not specifically going for "Ultra" lightweight with titanium or lightweight carriers and such. I was originally considering a Battle Arms BAD556 Ambi receiver but decided against it due to that "V" shape to the mag well. I'm also considering an adjustable gas block (As I've never tried an adjustable before) on a .625 gas journal barrel to keep the profile as small as possible. Or I might still go non-adjustable. Haven't decided yet. I know I'd need to keep it small if I went with a Centurion. It will be a general purpose rifle...range use, carbine classes, up close and shooting fast, and at distance of the bench (well...medium range....longest I can do at my local range is 600 yards). Most accuracy shooting done 100 or 200 yards. For the hand guard I'm pretty much narrowed to three manufacturers: Centurion CMR, a Geissele, or an SLR. I was dead set on a Geissele when I started but the more I look at the picture threads the more they seem just a bit "square" for this build. The SLR is tempting because it would probably match up best with an SLR receiver and they have some interesting cosmetic shapes & touches for this build. I haven't researched the lockup or practicality of the SLR though. I'm sure the Geissele is GTG. I was drawn to the Centurion for two reasons: 1) Appearance and 2) Size. Its got that small, round, profile with the holes that makes it look kind futuristic and blastery. I like the MLOK CMR I've seen alright but, cosmetically at least, I seem to like the one with the screw-in accessories slightly better better. I don't know much about either and the threads I've read about Gen1 & Gen2 and old & new are all very confusing when you're new to the Centurion CMR. The MLOK seems more practical. However, the large "flat" area on the sides for the MLOK doesn't look as nice to me as the more narrow flat sides on the ones with the screw-on attachments. I could go either way. I have no idea how practical the screw-on style is and I'm not sure how easy it is to attach a Surefire Mini-Scout and Arisaka mount. I've seen pics of them here but not sure how hard it was to attach. Or maybe the screw-on ones are just as practical. I'm guessing that maybe the MLOK version is more practical and the screw-on version, subjectively, is more attractive. On my other rifles I'm not one of those that swaps accessories much. Usually a light, sometimes a tape switch and sometimes not, sometimes a Magpul sling mount up on the upper rail halfway down the rail, rail panels to protect my hands, and thats about it. Once I have it the way I like it, I generally don't change it much. I'm not glued to any one system. I've got a keymod rifle, I've got an MLOK rifle. I don't mind a third system. Doesn't really matter. Though I don't think I'd do another keymod. As far as function goes: I LOVE the size, feel, & weight of the Midwest Industries G3 SSM rail I have on another 14.5" pinned rifle. The Centurion size, weight, & feel appear very similar. However, as previously mentioned, I wasn't confident with the install and lock-up design and even though I got it installed true & centered and its fine now and I DID use their green loctite - I still have my doubts as to how "bomb-proof" it is. It hasn't walked or moved on me yet though. I dread if I need to pull that rail off for whatever reason and then having to reinstall it again. I've got a 13" CMR Gen2 "Standard" Rail that I was planning to use on a build with a SLR Upper & Lower. Unfortunately, the anti-rotation tabs on the top of the CMR rail look like they are going to be a problem. They don't even come close to sliding onto the SLR Upper.
Just wondering if anyone else ran into the same thing with any upper and what they did? I could grind off the tabs but then I fear the rail might be able to rotate. Even if I did grind off the tabs, I can't say with 100% certainty whether the picatinny rail of the CMR would match up perfectly with the picatinny rail on the upper receiver. I'd hope it would but I can't say for sure with those tabs in the way. I just can't hold the receiver and the rail close enough together to tell if they match up. So I either need to figure a reliable workaround that solves the tabs problem but won't let that rail rotate, or I need to select a new rail, or a new receiver. ETA - You might see this post in the build forum as well as I figured maybe someone ran into something similar with a non-Centurion rail as well. This is my 4th build and the first time I ran into a rail/receiver compatibility problem. |

I have an original 11" CMR and it's a great rail but I just don't like the fact that I have to use their GB. Want to use an adjustable one. Anyone know if you can use an adjustable GB with a CMR?

Can anyone explain why my mlok rail came with 3 screws and the instructions say 3 screws to install, but the rail only has a spot for 2 screws and no center hole? Is this a mistake or are there multiple designs floating around?

Apparently they have upgraded the design to just use 2 screws and a newly designed spacer. My box just had the new rail and the old screw pack/instructions. Updated parts are getting shipped out to me now.

I gave a preview of this build up above and also in the Official Weapon Mounted IR Laser Pic Thread. There's a ton of customization on this fuck the libtards / "other fiream" and many parts will be easily identifiable from the photos. Key takeaway: it is tight inside the rail, but there is plenty of clearance after trimming a few of the MLOK screws. Some items of note are:
- Aero Upper Receiver - 11.5" Ballistic Advantage Barrel - SLR Rifleworks Gas Block - 10.5" MLOK CMR Rail - PSA Stealth Lower - Vltor A5H2 Receiver Extension Kit - Laser Devices ITAL (IR) with Larue LT-271 mount - Modified Streamlight clicky tapeswitch for constant on capability with a momentary only laser - Cloud Defensive LCS - Modified Tango Down T2 Cover |

Changed up my build a little bit by adding a Vortex UH-1 and installing a VLTOR A5 system. Hopefully I'll get to test it this week work willing.

Thinking about a 13.7" fsp build with solgw nox and the c4 mlok 12" fsp rail. Anyone have any idea how everything will line up? Want to be sure there is plenty of room to mount my sandman can on the end.
Also as you will see upthread I had a small problem with an order. They sorted me out quickly and efficiently and have made a fan out of me. |
