The Fortis has a hybrid Keymod/ 1913 system, the CMR uses a more modular approach giving a smooth surface with a 1913 rail on top plus the ability to use attachment points and accessories which mount direct to the rail. The Fortis spends less time on a CNC machine, which means it is cheaper to manufacturer, and cheaper for the consumer. The CMR was designed without cost in mind, making the best rail without compromise based on the training and operational experiences of the owner (active duty SEAL). |

Received this today, 12" .308 version going on a DPMS with a 16" barrel 
Note the notch at the rear of the top rail, more about this in a second:

I am pretty disappointed in one thing - there are no anti-rotation tabs like on the 5.56 version, just that weird little piece that fits in that notch. No idea at this point why that is, or what exactly that piece is for, but I was really expecting the external anti-rotation tabs when I ordered it. Then I saw Stickman's pics of the Centurion .308 that didn't have that notch at all, and Rainier's website shows the notch but not the other little piece. Ah well..... Other than that everything looks great, fits perfect, solid, no problems going together and it feels nice and light. |

Anti rototation tabs are nice to have, but not really needed with proper torque where needed IMHO. I'm guessing with the wild variations in .308 upper receivers, Centurion Arms made the call to skip the anti rotation tabs on the .308 variants.
I'm thinking that little tab will allow Centurion to create anti-rotation tabs to fit specific types of .308 uppers in the future, starting with the most popular options and then creating different anti rotation tabs as needed. I just got my batch of 5.56 CMRs in, and man, I can see now why the 14" is so darn popular. I swapped my early production 12" CMR off and put on a 14"... with a 14.7" barrel with pinned/welded Surefire suppressor mount, this thing is the heat!

You are paying for CNC machine time. If you are looking for a straight and simple extruded tube, you should be able to find them much cheaper but they aren't going to be like this. There are certainly people who won't see the difference, or don't need the differences, and that is all good as well. |

Okay so I understand being right handed and using a thumb over bore grip you can activate the light at 1 o'clock, but does the front sight get in the way since its moved back like that? ETA; Excellent wallpaper. |
