I have a Centurion arms barreled upper with a 14.5 middy barrel. It has per a call into Monty and he said the midlength barrel should have a .075-.076 gas port, mine might be one of the .075 barrels that was for a contract (the new CHF has a .076) and he thinks its the ammo since its old and had been loaded since that training class exposed to the elements and possibly the BCG. I have been using a lot of carbine gassed uppers the past few years because I had them and have been using older ammo lately and they seem to all run in my carbine barreled uppers from KAC, Armalite, LMT, Colt. I have been using H2 buffers in everything but the Colt because it came with a H buffer. The ammo is older wolf and Angelfire .223 reloads that I got during my 2017 deployment. The ammo ran in my 16 inch Troy Midlength uppers no problem but that has a .0795 gas port, during a few training courses that I used the ammo in. I also ran it with a suppressor sometimes. I was doing a function with a new lower and a new upper that I built the lower and the upper was built by the local AR armorer and I used a new DLC Toolcraft BCG, pulled PSA carbine buffer spring and a carbine buffer. Trigger is a Geissele Tricon. Mags are Magpul M3 pmags with the Angel Fire and Troy mags with the 55 grain Wolf .223. I sighted in the reddot and iron sights with 75 gr Hornady TAP SBR 5.56 Training with no issue and pulled out the loaded mags I grabbed from the left over training class mags that were loaded with the Angelfire to see where the holds would be from 5.56 to cheap .223 ammo and it started to have failure to feed. Sometimes I would get two shots off then click. The wolf would shoot 3-4 rounds with the non sealed .223 ammo then click but the sealed wolf .223 ammo I went through a mag of 30 no problem. I pulled out my LMT mk18 clone and the Angel fire and Wolf non sealed fired no problems but that is a 10.5 inch with a LMT BCG. I did not switch the BCG to see if the Toolcraft DLC could be an issue. I realized that after I left. So is it just the ammo? I did buy a box of .223 Ammo inc and it worked all 20 rounds but I loaded it in 5 round strings. So what should I look at or should I just grab some fresher ammo and see how it runs? |
