| Can you put a 416-pattern handguard on a Caracal 816 if you swap the barrel nut? Are the receiver heights the same? I know the 816 is a pretty outstanding offering from the factory but not sure I like the existing rail. |

Focus tripp, Hop, and small arms solutions have videos on them, one of them has a disassembly video, think it was focus. I believe Bartocci mentions something about parts compatibility. Receiver height ought to be identical. Barrel nut threads, ehh… I’m going to lean towards no, due to length. I’m not sure if they use the same barrel extension as the 416, or if it’s standard AR length. Not sure which the 516 used, either. If they used the same extension as the 416, then yeah, it should be cross compatible. I think the main issue is going to be lack of a wrench for the 816 barrel nut, one of the 516 wrenches should fit, but it might take you a while to find one. You’ll probably have to buy the 816 upper and 416 parts to find out, I wasn’t able to find much information on the caracal myself when I looked into it. Frankly, you could probably build out a BRN4 with one of the aftermarket adjustable gas blocks, or pick up the new… “Mohawk” 516 to get the same functionality without having to buy a bunch of parts to figure out if they work. |
| I have an 816 and some HK416/MR556 uppers, the anti-rotation/indexing tab on the 12 o'clock is different. One is larger or deeper than the other. The Sig 516 barrel nut is the same as the 816, so a Parker Mountain Machine 516 barrel nut wrench will work on the Caracal. But... unfortunately I think you're limited to just the factory handguard on an 816. |
