I'm in the process of acquiring parts for a c7 clone. I was watching a Canadian military video about training on the rifle. I saw some rifles had big buttons and others had regular button a2 style forward assist. I'm going to try and find and big button just more fun. But the sights I have a question on. Its appears they used and a2 aperture on an a1 sight set up is that accurate? Also the front sight appeared to have a round post not a square one. One more question on the sling what model sling would have been used by Canadian forces via 1985? Thanks. |

I use A2 rear apertures on all but my retro stuff(6series). The C7 is in the A2 family(7series) and was developed at the same time as the USMC was working on the A2(Canadians were at least read into the program if not directly involved in it), I would imagine they saw the benefit of the swap but I can't say for 100% certainty they did. @Augee @coldblue might could elaborate further. From my internetz research(take that for what its worth) Diemaco adopted a two point nylon sling with polymer buckle slides made by RTI/accupro in 1984 and still issue it today. Attached File Note the detachable carry handle, this is a C7A1(most likely) or A2 and is different from a US carry handle because it still uses the A1 style drum("field sight"). Attached File Link for legit surplus slings for those interested(not affiliated, for information purposes) C7 surplus sling I'm using Magpul two point basic slings as a stand in for now because theyre durable and very similar in appearance, I may just order 5 or 6 and pay the tariff/duties. @Aimless @Zhukov @BushBoar please tack the archived C7 information thread. I've IM'd most of the mods trying to get this tacked without success(or any reply for that matter). |

Thanks. Great post. I'm really digging building this early c7 clone. Any other details of parts that are different on a c7 verses an m16a2? Did I catch them all. A2 rear sight apt. Round front sight post. I'm going to use a large button f/a. Its period correct plus it's a bit different. I saw a few c7's in the video with large button f/a. I'm going to buy that sling you posted. I'm going to buy that sling you posted. Thanks. I have a big button FA on my C7, if you're using a A2 lower you'll need a "D" button which is clearanced so it won't hit the lower when depressed. Attached File Attached File The biggest difference is the upper, but if you really want to clone with max autism applied you need a CS stock(good luck) and all the "D"(Diemaco) parts you can find to include the receivers(unobtanium). Attached File C7 used a different polymer for the furniture claiming it to be more durable, a "fat style" A2 grip not the current ones, and the RTI sling. *NOT MY PIC, PULLED FROM THE ARCHIVED THREAD* Attached File If you want a good stand in for the CS LuthAR makes a A1 length stock w/A2 door, I have one on order. Also, the C7 stuck with the 6 series trigger(Safe/Semi/Auto) and skipped the goofy Burst mechanism so if you have a FRT that would be "correct" to me.(might rustle some jimmies but whatever)

I can't find a source that specifies which aperture the C7 uses. I have A2 apertures(0-2) in all my carry handles with the exception of my two 6 series(603/629) because I prefer them for practical shooting. I know that all the A1/A2s with the detachable rear sight all use A1 type sight wheels with A2 like apertures, I've yet to see a true A2 aperture though, it looks like a standard A1 aperture with the "L" aperture opened to the 0-2 spec, I've not seen a actual 0-2 marked aperture on a C7 of any variant(see the 2nd pic below). Also, the sight body is polymer on the A1/A2s. .JPG)

| For the life of me I can’t understand why the mods won’t tack the reference thread. This forum is lame with BHD and BD clones but here’s an interesting take on A2 variants and it’s invisible. I put a ton of time into it to help other members, and similar photo-based threads have been tacked in multiple sub forums. |
