| Has anyone taken A4 upper 20" pencil barrel and put on carbine or A5 buffer system w/adjustable stock? How is the balance and buffer weight? |

More or less, yes.  I have a Faxon 20" gunner barrel with a Midwest Industries M-LOK drop-in rail on a side-charging upper. It's light with pretty good balance. If you want to run the stock at or near full extension (especially if you mount a light or put a suppressor on), you might want to intentionally choose a slightly heavier buttstock for better balance, as the back end is pretty light in a carbine or A5 stock setup with a mil-spec carbine stock. |
