Arken came out with their original EP8 a year or two ago with the KLBOX reticle which was divisive, to say the least. It was an unorthodox BDC reticle that I was never particularly interested in. This new version with the KLGRID reticle is a much more traditional precision mil tree reticle. I like it quite a bit and I’ve shot and made hits out to 804yds with a 13.9” 5.56 with it. As you might expect from a sub $1000 LPVO with a precision focus, the reticle is not daylight bright in very bright conditions, but it’s still usable. I shot it in a 3 gun match and it worked okay, but an offset dot would definitely be faster. The glass is Japanese and I found it to be quite good. Not PLX-C good, but still impressive. All in all this is a very solid LPVO for an SPR/DMR/Recce rifle where you want something with more precision than a basic BDC. |

I have some time on a friends new pre-ordered Arkden EP8 1-8 with klgrid reticle and I was really unimpressed. The glass was very distorted at the edges, the eye box was quite tight, and the glass was nothing to write home about and was very cool-toned and "foggy". You also see A LOT of the eye piece and even some of the inner tube when looking through the scope at various magnifications. The black ring is just massive in my opinion but YMMV on what bugs you with that. My friend who owns it noted he also doesnt like the capped turrets and he likes to dial a little bit but IMO thats really personal pref and I dont think dialing for elevation with an LPVO on the fly is prudent. IMO the vortex strike eagle FFP 1-8 on sale for under $300 is the 1-8 king. The one thing the Arken has going for it is illumination it is not daylight bright but its really not bad at all - much better than other non-fire dot budget offerings including Vector and probably on par with the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 FFP illum. Another positive for the Arken is that the reticle is very sharp and crisp when you properly tune the focus ring. But unfortunately that doesnt matter much given its detractors for me personally. |

Interesting, my EP8 glass didn’t exhibit those issues. Bezel is definitely thicc and the eyebox is a little tight, yes. I also prefer locking turrets but really I can’t complain for the price. Better capped than uncapped/non locking. |
