So, I got a Ballistic Advantage 10.5" barrel, installed it in a new Colt upper. I cannot get any bolt to close on a GO gauge. I've tried 2 Colt, 1 SOLGW, 1 FN, and 1 PSA bolt. None of them will close on a Manson Precision 5.56 GO gauge. It will chamber and eject a loaded M855 round and a 55gr FMJ loaded on Dillon dies that fits in a Dillon case gauge. Ballistic Advantage says that they use PTG headspace gauges and that my gauge is the problem. That seems odd since every other 5.56 gun I own will close on that gauge. The last email from them asked what I was getting for a NO GO measurement...... Have any of you had anything similar happen? Starting to think I should just write off the hundred bucks I spent on this barrel and order an FN. |

I guess everyone considers a 5.56 GO gauge to be the length of what the US uses for the M16 style rifle acceptance for Min. length on a new rifle? Even their gauge has a tiny bit of tolerance allowance. When a manufacture says it is a 5.56 chamber on a barrel, I have always thought that was just a reference to how the throat area was cut not necessarily that the chamber was any longer than the SAAMI min. length for a 223. |
