I have been playing with this for about a month. It has to be the hardest gun I have ever had to make it cycle. Taking the upper off the lower it cycles like butter. But once assembled it is a PITA. It is the hammer that is making this cycle so hard. Once the hammer is cocked it cycles not bad. But trying to get the bcg to overcome the hammer spring is crazy hard. I have to slap the handle hard to get it to overcome the hammer spring. I have tried it with 3 different lowers with 3 different triggers. The same thing on all. One has a Larue MBT-2 with the lite spring. One is a PSA drop in cassette trigger. And the 3rd is a PSA with that polished nickle coating. Has anyone else been able to replicate this with yours? And what could be done to fix it, or at least let me cycle it while still holding a sight picture. |
| If the only common thing is the BCA upper, then I would blame the upper. I have not had the best experience with BCA quality. I suspect something is out of spec and causing excess drag when any hammer pressure is applied to the BCG. It could be a problem with the bolt, a problem with the upper receiver specs, crappy machining, or even a bent or out of spec charging handle. I have experienced all of these from BCA. If it is under warranty I would contact BCA. |

My experience is the BCA bolt action upper is a neat concept, but needs a bit more refinement. The bolt on mine tends to over-rotate, making it difficult to get it to open, as the locking lugs don’t like to line up with the barrel extension. It’s related to the looseness of the bolt to upper. Interestingly, if there is a round in the chamber (or a fired brass), it lines up and cycles fine. The brass acting as an extension appears to help align things. Again, neat concept but a bit lacking. |

They just came out with a new ar10 style 3 lug bolt action. I found a old hammer spring last night. It is new. I took it out of a older build. It would not fire most ammo. It is really lite. It had about 25 rds on it when pulled. I am going to try swapping it out on the PSA polished trigger parts to see if that helps. I feel this is the main reason these things are so hard to cycle. I talked to a few locals that have one of these and they say theirs is the same way. |
