Wolfgang, what cores are you unable to cut/grind? I remember you posting some that could not be cut using typical methods.

The core ISN'T like the M855 at all which uses a MILD steel (Rockwell C 40-45), the core of the Austrian AP is HARDENED steel (Rockwell C 63-65) . Not to mention the shape of the core, pointed vs flat. A true armor piercing. wolfgang |

Sorry, didn't weigh this one and even though have a couple of extras, not willing to pull apart yet. The powder is split in half and usually placed into 2 separate cutaways.
Sometimes its full to the top, and others not so much. Remember, when aligning the primer hole (holes) to cut, they are not always dead center of the case. On a section that P. Smith did over on the IAA web page, his has a black painted tip, and he leaves his cores intact. The only cores that I can't cut so far are the solid tungsten or tungsten ceramic, ie; m993 or m995 Trying to get a depleted uranium round which I wont/ can't cut either. |
