| Need help with my ar 15 jamming shell chase is always getting caught on dust cover doesnt eject but does cycle next round bolt come foward all the way i changed my buffer spring and weight nothing but my gas block line is a little loose but ive heard that aluminum gas block arent good is it my gas tube roll pin gas block or gas line that is the problem any help? I have a ratical firearm not sure if they come with steel or aluminum gas blocks?. |
| First of all, it would be beneficial for you to write in sentences with punctuation, so we can understand exactly what you’re asking. Second, aluminum gas blocks are not nearly as common as steel blocks, and your Radical (known to be a pretty cheap brand) probably has a steel gas block. |

If I'm understanding correctly the empty casing is getting pinched by the bolt and sticking out of the ejection port? If so that's called a stove pipe. When you say you changed buffers. What did you change it from and to? Gas tubes sometimes jiggle a little bit. Not an issue normally. I have helped a friend troubleshoot a radical upper once and the gas block was not aligned with the gas port, causing the rifle to short stroke. That may be your issue. But I'm also kind of guessing what your issue is still. Pics if possible, and let us know what spring and buffer you are using. Also if you load one round into a mag and fire it, does the bolt lock to the rear? |

Yes, Correct bolt come all the way foward pinching empty shell case I changed my buffer weight from 3oz to 3.8oz and i have carbine spring. Just very confused ,when i first got my ar it never jammed on me till 1 week ago still havent found the problem. I compared it to another ar i have that works perfect only difference was the gas line was tight on one and a little loose on the other. I havent tried that but that last time i was at the range i had 30 round mag full and jammed first round and shell case got pinched by BCG . No the BCG comes foward it dosent lock too the rear. What kind of pics do you need ill send them . |

For clarification is this happening sporadically or only on the first round of the mag. If it's jamming sporadically it sounds to me like you are undergassed. I'm basing that on the fact that the spent casing isn't fully ejecting and the bcg is not locking to the rear on the last round, meaning it isn't traveling far enough back to catch the bolt catch. If I'm understanding you correctly. I'm also assuming you're using factory ammo. Weak reloads could cause this as well. Did you change any parts since it worked last? Does the gas key on the bcg feel loose? You could also check if the gas block is aligned properly by removing it to see if the carbon overlaps the port. But that would be odd if it was running fine before like you mentioned. Easy to check though. |

As already mentioned start with a thorough cleaning. This includes using a chamber brush to remove any fouling from the chamber. Once cleaned, then I would suggest swabbing the chamber out with denatured alcohol to confirm there is no lube or solvent in the chamber that would cause any issues. When cleaning, check the gas rings to confirm they create a seal. Also check the gas key to confirm it is tight, and the gas key is properly staked. Remove the extractor from the bolt, and check to see if it has an O-ring on the extractor spring. If it does have an O-ring, on the next range session try shooting it without the O-ring to see if it makes any difference, as the extra extractor tension that the O-ring might give may be too much and not allowing the empty shell case to release. Once things are thoroughly cleaned and inspected, I would suggest lubricating the 7 bolts lugs so they are good and wet with a quality lubricant, my personal preference is Slip2000 "EWL" Extreme Weapons Lube. Then try shooting it once again with different ammunition for process of elimination to see if it is possibly ammunition related. I would also suggest that you try and load one round into the magazine at a time, and only one, then insert the one shot magazine into the magazine well and confirm it is locked in by tugging downward on it and it should stay locked into the magazine well. Now manually cycle the action and let the bolt carrier assembly go forward under the action spring (buffer spring) forward pressure at which time the single round of ammunition should be stripped off the magazine, feed into the chamber, and the bolt carrier assembly should fully lock into battery. With the gun now locked into battery with one round in the chamber, shoot that one round. Once fired the bolt should unlock from battery, then as it travels rearward the empty case should be extracted from the chamber. The bolt carrier assembly should continue rearward and eject the empty case out the ejection port, at the same time the hammer should be recoked, and the bolt carrier assembly should lock to the rear on the bolt catch. What you are trying to confirm by this one shot drill, is that the bolt carrier assembly should fully lock back on the empty magazine. If the bolt carrier is locking back on the bolt catch, but the empty case is not being ejected, then you are experiencing ejection issue, as when the bolt carrier locks back consistently then it is going back far enough to eject. A fail to eject issue like this is most likely caused by a stuck or weak ejector, or something blocking the ejection port, and can also be attributed to an extractor that is out of spec or too much tension that may not be allowing the empty case to be released to be ejected. Now during the one shot drill, if the bolt carrier assembly will not lock back consistently, then you are most likely experiencing a short stroke. A short stroke is usually caused by friction or lack of gas pressure. Friction can be eliminated by a thorough cleaning and lubrication. Gas pressure issues start with needing to have a gas ring seal, then look at the gas key to make sure it is tight and properly staked, check to see if the gas key is plugged. Then look at the gas tube to make sure there are no issues with it being plugged, out of spec, and properly installed of which may also include a misaligned barrel nut that is pushing the gas tube off center where it mates with the gas tube. Next it may be the gas port is too small, gas port is plugged or partially blocked of which could also be attributed to a misaligned gas block. You also mention that you are using 3 to 3.8oz buffer. I might suggest going to a standard carbine buffer to give things a little less rearward resistance. Also can you provide any possible pics, and more information about the exact build would possibly help show us what is going on. If it is reasonably clean already: You have a gas leak, a misaligned port, or an undersized port, ordered from most likely to least likely. I’d start at the gas key. Inspect it for obvious fuckery. Check that it cannot be wiggled on the carrier. Check the screws by turning clockwise lightly….they may be loose or broken. Ensure that the bolt gas rings are present and look reasonably serviceable. Check that setscrews or whatever hasn’t walked out of your gas block, and that the tube is still pinned in place. It is normal for the gas tube to be loose in the receiver, but it should be tight in the gas block. At the end that fits into the carrier gas key, there should be a raised ring that can be felt with a fingernail, around the entire tip. |

Extractor is either dropping case off the bolt face on the way back during extraction, ejector is binding in bolt face channel if extractor is not dropping case on the pull to back of stroke, or face of bolt is retracting back past back of ejection port window back edge on stroke, to deflect spent round back into action of pivot off bolt face; With deflected spent case ending up causing a jam back in the action, while the bolt is trying to load in the next stripped round from the mag into the chamber. Also note, since does not stated if live round is being stripped out of mag via bolt behind rim, or if bolt just grabbing live round via middle of case to cause bolt over Jam on loading, not sure rig is full stroking to begin with. |
