Any downsides you’ve identified beyond cost on this thing? Currently ~$3,500. Trying to decide between AMG 1-10 FFP, NF NX8 1-8 FFP, NX6 1-6 FFP. Kind of a wild swing, I know, just don’t want to regret an already expensive purchase, whichever way I go. I’m also desperately trying to stay under 19/20oz. I really liked the NX6 1-6 when I looked through it but man that’s a lot of magnification lost vs 1-8 or 1-10. My eyes aren’t what they used to be! Odd cross-shop, I know. How is the glass clarity, in the real-world, of say the NX6 vs AMG? |
| Do your engagement distances require higher levels of magnification? .223/556 past 600 becomes a challenge either way because of ballistics. If you're planning on pairing clip-ons with them you better have some deep pockets if you want to get out of the 4-6x range. The nx6 will in theory be the most forgiving on the eyes, with the amg in distant 2nd and nx8 in 3rd from a DOV perspective. |

As you said, better to at the very least look through as many as possible. From experience with premium LPVOs. 1-6 SFP will be a very nice experience. 1-8 FFP will be a useful experience. Very different things. What is the max distance you will shoot? What type of zero do you like? |

I really like mine. Pros: Form factor Performance on 1x 10x is plenty usable and good, and the translucent reticle makes precision very easy Halo product vibe: Companies always take better care of halo product owners if anything goes wrong, although Vortex does well regardless of line Very good optical performance across the magnification spectrum. 1x is clear, and 10x is clear. A bit part of this is their 250 yard diopter setting. The diopter adjustment doesn't keep shooting loose and require tape. Cons: 8-10x can be dark at night or in lower light Translucent reticle is easily "lost" in dimmer, mixed backgrounds like the woods, etc. at 8x and above Vortex vibe: Your friends won't think it's as cool as their S&B's even if it costs the same/similar To get a true 1x and a clean 10x and all in between, they really "beat the light up". This results in kindof an odd propensity for internal reflection in some lighting, pictured below: Attached File Attached File Notice the lighter area that is "Zone 1" on the 1x photo? Notice the bit of reflection in the 10x photo? This is an optical aberrance I have not noted in any other optic, and I believe it has to do with the use of aspherical lens elements in the Vortex. Do I like that? No. But it is a price I am willing to pay for the "rest of the package" and do not regret the purchase. It is my favorite LPVO. |

It is my favorite LPVO. i was never impressed with the fish eye on 1x nor the 10x performance of the Razor gen3, what sounds like they beat those 2 complaints of mine, in the expense of what you are describing with light. Makes sense. Any luck using this behind a clip on? I am ready to drop the coin on this, so hunting every single bit of intel i can. Real time users are great source. |

Attached File I really like mine. I would buy it again. I also have a NX8 1-8x, Razor 1-6x, and a Razor 1-10x. I like the AMG the best. 1x is really good and 10x is plenty usable. The new dual zero turrets are very nice and I like having 2 zeroes. |

I sold my Razor 1-6 to purchase the AMG and I don't regret it at all. I never thought I would get rid of my 1-6 as it is just such a great optic. I think the AMG surpasses it in ever way though. Better reticle, lighter weight, shorter, better 1x. I wouldn't hesitate to get another AMG. The only downside to the AMG is the price. |

That tiny form-factor though. So nice. I got the NX6 1-6 in a few days ago and it’s a big bitch. The weight is near identical to the AMG, but it’s 1.8” longer. That’s a lot of scope on an 11.5. I’m used to mini-ACOGs. That said, the NX6 really looks beautiful to look through. Can’t wait to get it mounted and tested out. 1x looks freakin killer for an LPVO. Part of me wishes I’da pulled the trigger on the AMG! |

Part of me wishes I'da pulled the trigger on the AMG! I do wish it was closer in form factor to the Primary Arms RDB (Shorter and lower profile elevation turret). Because I really like the recticle. The more I think about it the features of the AMG are growing on me. Short length, locking diopter and dual zero are really appealing. Price is a bummer but I guess it's time to start saving and selling some gear that's been piling up. |

I like to set my stocks on the shorted side (2 clicks out from closed using a magpul CTR). With the regular 1-10, i have to use a Geissele Hyper Extended Mount and mount the optic as far forward in the mount and as far forward on the upper receiver as I can to get a good sight picture. I don't have to do that with the AMG. I think the main benefits over the Razor Gen III are smaller, lighter, slightly better 1, and the dual zero. |

This is definitely a technicality but shouldn't be overlooked with what vortex managed to accomplish in such a short 10x erector |

My training buddy has a couple Razor 1-10 Nice optic but very unforgiving eye box. I’ve got both the Razor 1-6 and the NF NX8 much much better eye box. I prefer a red dot and QD magnifier for most applications but these have their place Attached File Attached File |

| Based on my experience with many scopes, after 6x on an lpvo with a 24mm objective, I would move to something with a bigger objective for a better eye box and eye relief at 8-10 x. You just can't beat physics here imo. I would do a 1-6x lpvo if I had to have 1x in the scope. If I wanted more magnification beyond that, I would get like the 1.5-12x36 plxC rdb or another high end 2-10, just much better experience after 6x. Paying $3,500 won't help you get around the physics of that small objective and no parallax. Get something cheaper and less compromised or move to the mpvo. Just my experience, currently running the 1.5-12x rdb and it's an lpvo+ and it's really good. YMMV |
| I have shot most of the LPVOs out there. I really don't feel like the Razor 1-10x or the AMG have tight eye boxes. I just shot Multigun Nationals with a Razor 1-10 last week and finished pretty well with it. Plenty of other shooters were shooting them too without any issue. I prefer my Razor 1-10 and AMG now over my Razor 1-6 and my NF NX8. |

I do wish that the AMG was available with the BDC reticle. I know I'm in the minority, but that's what I prefer. Same with the NX8, I loved both of mine that I had, but just prefer a BDC with wind holds. I thought that the DMX reticle would be an improvement over the standard, but I would constantly lose my point of aim between shots under recoil. I don't like mil based Christmas trees, too cluttered. For that reason, I have stuck with the standard Razor Gen III 1-10x, Leupold MK6 CMR-W, and the new PLXC 1.5-12x, all which have BDCs, and all of which I love. I also have an older PLXC 1-8x, it's a'ight. |

But if they release the standard AMG version with the regular BDC from the standard Gen III, I may get one. |

Little more larping time with the AMG past few nights. I’ve been able to A/B/C between the NX6 1-6, AMG 1-10 and PLxC 1-8 RDB. Quickly grabbing each rifle and doing fast comparisons. I’ve got a lot of new guns and optics to get squared away which is what’s been taking me so long. I’ll make LOP adjustments, then optics adjustments and pick it up the next day and make more adjustments, lol, times about 7 guns. I want to get all that squared away before wasting boatloads of time and ammo zero’ing all of those rifles. Not to mention brand new gas adjustments on 5 of those 7 rifles. Oh and 2 new handguns I’ve gotta get zero’d. So I will say those 3 LPVOs are very good - better than anything that was out just 3-4 years ago, which is one of the reasons I’ve not fully adopted LPVOs until now. Some notes on the AMG that come to mind. I’ll jump to some negatives because we all know the positives about 1-10 in a small, lightweight pkg. 1. AMG’s anti-reflection coating needs some work on the ocular lens. It is by far the worst when it comes to seeing any small light source behind me in the eyepiece. The NX6 and RDB don’t have this issue. 2. AMG’s 1x is not quite as good as the other two. The FFP reticle at 1x is very hard to pick up without the illumination. The 3 lines are very thin - the NX6’s are thin too, but these are even thinner. I’d almost say it’s completely unusable at 1x without the illumination, except if you’re shooting at something in the sky or snow. I think any FFP LPVO really requires illumination at 1x if I’m being honest, so part of this is just pointing out just how thin that reticle is at 1x. At 1x the slightly shaded “ring” around the edges is visible. Certainly not a deal-breaker, but I thought this was going to be only more noticeable at higher mags - nope it’s noticeable at 1x. 3. AMG’s color is just a slight bit off compared to the other two. Certainly not a deal-breaker, and at times, not even noticeable. 4. AMGs total light collecting seems slightly less than the other two. Again ABC testing, the “image” is slightly dimmer at all mags than the other two. That PLxC is an amazingly BRIGHT optic. Tons of light pouring into it. It really makes the reticle pop and details pop. 5. AMG’s reticle crispness / “pop” - the intentionally translucent reticle system of the AMG is something I’ll have to get used to. Not a dig as I know the purpose, just new to me. So an absolutely killer and capable LPVO, but a lot of little things combined do detract from the “both eyes open” 1x performance. The PLxC RDB and NX6 at 1x are pretty freakin’ great - there is very little distortion and the optic seems to disappear on both of those. The AMG just doesn’t have quite that same effect. I can see why some folks run a traditional dot on top of the AMG. If I’m being honest, without a lot of 1x CQB range time I’m not sure if I wouldn’t also crave a dot with the other two - I just don’t know yet. 10x max mag performance will only really be able to be judged when I get to the range - so far larping around it is very good. EDIT: Perhaps I was a bit harsh on the “disappears” less - it definitely disappears, as-in the scope body / tunnel effect isn’t there at 1x, just like the other two. “Eyebox tightness” on all 3 is very manageable - nothing like the NX8 1-8s I’ve looked through. That was just a no-go for me. I wish I could find an ATACR 1-8 to look through. I don’t think I’ve said anything new here, probably just some confirmation and again just another opinion from my eyes - YMMV completely. Mindblowing how good the PLxC RDB is for the ~$1,350 I paid. Have no idea if it’s going to blow up on me in 2 weeks or not - have no idea on how rugged (or not) it is, but dang impressive for the money. |

seems like the amg 1-10 has a lot of compromises? maybe not worth the coin? i remember running a razor 1-10 gen 3 for a few months but after trying my buddy's atacr 1-8 dmx, i just realized how bad the eyebox was on the razor. atacr 1-8 eyebox just felt more steady at all magnifications. |

I have no experience with the Razor 1-10 Gen3. I know people try to compare the AMG to the Razor 1-10 Gen3 and you can't really do that, from what I've heard. Very different optic. |
