Ammunition review - Wolf M193/Prvi Partizan M193 (Page 2 of 6)
| I tried to shoot some Wolf M193 Lot 37(head stamp 2005) this weekend, but it keep jamming my rifle. The rounds keep failing to extract and cause double feeding. My rifle fired Black Hill and Q313A ammo flawlessly. The rifle I use was brandnew Stag Arms/ with brandnew C-Products magazines. I just called wolf and they are refunding my money back.... they were pretty nice about whole thing. |
16" or 20" barrel? |

I'm on my third round of 1000 round lot. I'm using a Colt m4, Colt 30rnd mags and 20rnd D&H. Every round ran flawless. I feel for the ones that do have issues with them. I find them to be excellent rounds for my M4. Also, I pulled the head on one of the rounds (2005 LOT# 47) and the powder is the round flake stuff, I was expecting to see it look like the stick type. I will keep shooting it as long as it works in my AR. |

Sorry about the mayonnaise, guys.

| Bought 2k rounds from AmmoMan. Fast delivery, decent price $209/k. Lot not known at this time, head stamp 2005. Shot 5m rounds NO problems from a new Bushmaster 16" CAR. Seem accurate enough, I killed a shit load of Jack Rabbits with them. Need to bench it and see how it prints on paper. I like the stuff, will buy it again... |

OK - good stuff. . . I shot 200 rounds today from an 11.5 barrel (with welded 5.5 flash hider). Very clean new gun - about 400 rounds shot through it before today. M1S 5.56 upper & barrel. S15 lower. Bushie Cal-legal mag. Well lubricated with CLP. NO problems of any kind. Observations: 1) shot back to back with AE223 - the M193 appears to have less recoil. 2) the M193 is a few millimeters longer than the AE223 - not sure if this is because it is really 5.56 (vs. the AE which is not)? 3) the fact that is a longer cart. means that it was a little harder to stuff into the mag. 4) could be my shooting, some groups were all over the place - however, my good groups were REALLY good (5 shot group had 3 holes touching at 50 yards, with a red dot - BUT that group also had two flyers that were about 2 inches away from the rest of the group). 5) in my gun, it shoots about 4 MOA higher than the AE. Opinion: I will buy the Wolf whenever I can get a good price on it - but in my gun, it is not as consistent as the AE. LOT NUMBER - "PPU 0503-02" - headstamp 05. N.B., I'm pretty sure the blue two digit numbers on the white boxes are INSPECTOR NUMBERS, NOT LOT NUMBERS. In the lot number the "PPU" stands for Prvi Partizan, and I would venture to speculate that the "0503" stands for the year and month of manufacture - the 02 would probably be the actual production run in that month. |

This ammo is some good stuff! The rifle" Cav-Arms MKII lower Unknown brand flat-top upper Sabre 16" barrel, 1:7 I took 200 rounds of the Wolf, and 200 rounds of AE223 to the range today. The Wolf outperformed the AE, hands down. The Wolf is more accurate then the AE, and I couldn't really tell any difference in power. Zero failures, with either ammo. My rifle is way over-lubed, since I sparyed way to much CLP in it, before I left. Yeah, it went everywhere when I started shooting. With a TA31F ACOG, I was able to hit a prarie dog sized reactive target with the Wolf ammo, at 300 yds. I can't be scientific about, but it seemed I made more hits with the Wolf, than I did with the AE. I'm ordering more, right now! |

OK - I went back to range today with a bunch of AE and Wolf M193. After my first test Friday, I decided to use some Hoppe's and then bore paste to decopper my 11.5 barrel (M1S XM177 clone, bushie mag, S15 lower). Today, the wolf shot much better. I pasted eight, 3 inch shoot-n-c targets at 50 yards, and then did eight 5 shot groups. All eight groups were in the black, and this was with a (4 MOA) red dot scope. Several groups were touching or almost touching, with one or two flyers that would be about 1.5 inches outside the group. I could discern almost no difference in accuracy at this range. Also, the Wolf did not shoot higher (than the AE) like it did last time. There were no feeding or extracting problems. The only thing I noticed was that the shells all had little dents in them after I shot them - it looks like they were denting on my deflecter on the way out of the gun. The AE did not have these dents. I am thinking that the brass might be different - OR more likely, the base of the shell is shaped a little different and causes the extractor to really fling the spent shell out of the gun with much vigor. k |
I used normal bullet (head) puller, and for a pic of the power I did not bring a digi cam to the range that day. But it was the flake power. |
I just paid $209 shipped from Ammoman. This ammo is clean and shoots in my AR without a problem. I don't know what kind of quality it is for personal defense or anything of the sort, but for paper punching it's great. |

I officially don't like this ammo. I posted previously about FTE problems which onset after ~80rds, and today I extended the testing a bit. I ran Wolf M193 thru my Bushmaster until it had the first FTE, at 63 rds. Cleared it, resumed firing, got 14 rds and another FTE, 6 rds and another FTE. I then loaded up 2 mags with IMI ammo, ran 40rds of that thru it with no FTEs at all. Loaded again, another 40rds of IMI with no failures. I then loaded up a mag of Wolf M193, got 9 rds thru it and sure enough had an FTE. Followed up with 20rds of IMI, no failures. This is two separate rifles both having the same issue, both chambered 5.56mm and cleaned thoroughly (Army methodology) prior to shooting. To all the guys who have no issues w/ Wolf M193, I salute you but I'm designating my remaining inventory as (overly expensive) plinking ammo. |

On 5/27/06 I fired 80 rounds of Wolf/Prvi Partizan M-193 through my Ruger Mini-14. This ammo was headstamped 2004. The 59th round failed to extract. After dropping the magazine and letting the bolt go home, the round extracted. The ammo did not seem as hot as XM-193, judging by the ejection pattern. Usually, cases are vigorously ejected from this rifle. The Wolf/PP M-193's ejection was much softer. My Mini-14 runs virtually 100% with XM-193, Ultramax commercial reloads, and Russian-made Wold 55 grain JHP. Accuracy was good. Definitely better than Russian-made Wolf 55 grain JHP. The ammo burns cleaner than Russian-made Wolf. I have another 120 rounds and will probably use it up in the Ruger. If I get no more malfs I'll be inclined to buy more. ETA: I fired 100 rounds of my remaining stock of the Wolf M-193 on 7/23/06, through a brand new Arsenal, Inc. SAM-5 5.56mm Kalashnikov. No malfunctions whatsoever, and as before it seems to be pretty cleaning burning. I'll be buying more. |
| Put 100 rounds through my DPMS M4gery ... About round fifty the bolt did not fully close and there was a live round in the chamber. Couldn't figure out what was going on. After several minutes of scratching my head I noticed something shiny off to the side of the live round preventing the bolt from closing. Turned out to be a blown primer from the previous round. Removed the blown primer and the rest of the rounds went through with no issues. |
| I have put about 40 rounds through a 20" Stag build. Initially, had the same problems with short stroking. I only bought a 100 rounds so no big deal. I detailed cleaned the AR and took some back to the range, 2005 headstamp. I was able to go through 20 rounds no problem, I gave another 20 (I only brought two boxes) to someone else with an older 20" (preban) AR of indeterminate build (I didn't ask!), he experienced the same problem with short stroking. His rifle was overly lubed, mine was relatively dry. I am not sure of this round, yet. I'll give it time (and others reviews) till I make a final decision. I did vote that I would not use it (ie the current lots). Hopefully Partizan will correct the problem. |
If you say its performs like SHIT they will keep the price DOWN Same here its the best M193 ammo Ive shot to date Bushmaster Shorty and LMT M4 IMG 55 SA 55 IMI 55 FED XM193 55 Q3131 55 Q3131A 55 PMC M193 55 FAKE S&B 55 |
Just caught this, sorry for the late response. Failure to extract is my problem. Expended brass is still fully parked in the chamber when the bolt returns and tries to feed another round from the magazine. |
In my case w/ the Fail To Extract, it's cycling the bolt just fine so no pressure problem. When I drop the mag and clear the unfired round that's jammed into the feed ramps, I can let the bolt slam forward and then manually extract by pulling the charging handle. There's noticeably extra effort involved in extracting the brass in this case, but it comes right out and I'm back in business. This gun eats polymer/steel cased Wolf alll afternoon no problem, as well as IMI, Fed XM193, and AE. It's a chrome-lined chamber and barrel and gets cleaned to Army supply sgt specs after each session. I don't get it. |

100 rounds thru a Bushmaster M4 w/ Aimpoint Comp ML3 @25 yards: Held very tight groups at shooting short-range, took her out to 50 yards and the groups were still a very good improvement over crappy Wolf 223. Only thing I noticed was some of the brass got left behind on my bolt (looks like it was gold plated haha). Also had a bit more punch behind it compared to crappy Wolf, so that helped with the groupings! Overall I give it a thumbs up for price and being M193

| Just got off the phone with a dealer and he told me that they had been contacted by Wolf concerning a bad batch of M193 ammo. Wolf is shipping the dealer a new supply to replace there current supply. Wolf indicated that they had a prtoduction problem and that the ammo was under powered. |
|
I had one round FTExtract this evening. The cartridge expanded and wouldn't extract. I had to tap it out with a rod. I'm going to test at least eighty more rounds tomorrow to see if there are any failures. I was looking at stacking some of this up, but one popped primer and one FTE out of 120rds is somewhat high, especially for SHTF ammo. TS |

Ammo: Wolf M193 (brass cased) Lot No: PPU-0503-04 Container: Green plastic "battle pack" of 200 rounds (10 white boxes of 20 rounds) Rifle: Bushmaster M4A3 Patrolman's Carbine (16 inch chrome lined bbl, carbine length gas system) ~1000 rounds total through rifle Freshly cleaned / lubed prior to range session Conditions: Indoor range, 25 yds. Temp ~100 deg F Fired 100 rounds total of Wolf M193 using two Bushmaster supplied 30 round magazines. No failures to feed No failures to extract / eject No failures to cycle Accuracy seemed comparable to Lake City XM193 and WWB. No chronograph available. I think I will be buying more of this for general range / plinking ammo. Matt |

I just had another FTExtact due to high pressure that made the case bulge. The brass has a very nice little impression of my extractor. I've contacted Wolf and am awaiting their response. I really wanted to like this ammo. The lot numbers were 34 and 35 for information purposes. TS |

Just got an email response from Wolf. They will replace my "bad lot" Wolf M193. They would refund my money if I had the receipt(s). The one battlepack I have opened, fired and had problems with I'm sure I will exchange. Should I return the other unopened battlepack? I bought them at different times and therefore don't know if they are the same lots with similar problems. TIA, TS |

Rifle: Colt MT6400C, only lubed after a previous 300 round WWB day Magazines: Two brand new Cproducts SS, one Thermold, one Labelle Weather: Varying from sunny, high 90's, to cloudy and sprinkilng Ammo lots: Mixed boxes from Sportsmans Guide, 31, 35, 41, 46, 47 ZERO problems with this ammo, NO failures of any kind. I had read about problems with certain lots and was afraid when I found my order to consist of boxes of different lots. My MT6400C has been boringly reliable after about 2500 rounds of varying ammo through her to include 500 of Wolf polymer. I went through 200 rounds of the Wolf 193 this trip, have 300 left for another day. Also shot 20 rounds of UMC which felt a tad hotter . Shot all rounds from same spot, sitting and standing, and all brass landed in a small area. Can't really comment on accuracy since I was shooting at steel plates at distances up to 300 yards. All went where I aimed when I did my part.
