Please add your personal experience with WINCHESTER Q3131A / IMI M193 ammunition to this thread. When you do, please give information about: 1) Firearm used in 2) Approximate number of rounds fired. For more information about this ammunition, check out the Winchester website. From RussB's post out of a 16" barrel: Velocity: 3079fps, StdDev=13fps Winchester Q3131A is made in Israel by IMI for Winchester and is the same as IMI (TZ headstamp) M193. This is NOT for the Q3131 made in the USA nor the same as Q3131A1 made in South Korea. Let's limit this to .223/5.56 ammunition, since this is an AR-15 forum. No offense to the guys with AR's in other calibers, but we all know that .223 chamberings are the most sensitive. I am trying to solicit only information about your PERSONAL experience with this ammunition. If you haven't used it, then please don't clutter up the thread. Information about proper functioning (or lack thereof) is obviously the most important, but factors such as the accuracy or other peculiarities you've noticed are informative also. If you have had problems with this ammo which were severe enough to cause you to stop using this ammo, then please describe them. And one more minor request: keep your reviews objective. |

Archived comments since the last one: 03USMC11 I have shot about 500 rounds of Winchester 3131A through a 20" 1x12 and a 16" 1x9 barrel and have found it to be pretty accurate(I have only used iron sights and a Hakko red dot) and I don't recall ever having any trouble with it. I have about 500 more rounds of Q3131A stored on the family ranch as some SHTF ammo. HighStrung1 3K rounds of Q3131A 55g FMJ through my Bushmaster 14.5" 1/9 5.56 NATO w/perm Phantom over the last 4 years. Not one FTF or FTE in 3K rounds. No primer problems, dented casings or accuracy problems. Not one single problem except where to find more. I have 2K stashed, but this ammo is the BEST i've had since I bought my first AR in 2002. AFAIC, Q3131A and/or Lake City/Federal XM193 is by far, the cream of the crop. Iron sights, offhand, 10 inch steel plate out to 135 yards which is the limit at Pop's. Impressive accuracy even during controlled rapid fire engagements. SoftwareJanitor I have shot a few hundred rounds of Q3131A through my AR (20" A2 style). Definitely good stuff, clean, not smelly, decent accuracy for a "value" brand. Brass is good for reloading. I would definitely buy more if it were available, but I haven't seen any locally in a few months. MudBug I shot 1k of this stuff during day 2 and the first couple hours of day 3 at a recent 5 day contractor class with no problems I can blame on the ammo. ChuckT I've shot about 600 or 700 combined through an Oly PCR-99, Colt MT6700 HBAR, and LMT M4-gery with only 1 failure to extract from the Oly, but that's a .223 chamber with 5.56 ammo, so not the ammo's fault. It's the operator's fault for using 5.56 ammo in a rifle with a .223 SAAMI chamber! gunslingerdoc My favorite ar/m-16 ammo. Ive run several K thru an lmt 10.5, bushy 16"'ers, spr WOA 18". I have never had an ammo related malfunction. This has been the most accurate factory ammo (that's generally affordable) across all the platforms Ive run it thru. It is my SHTF ammo being more accurate than the federal made flavors. danpass Forty rounds fired thru a 16" DPMS AR15. Even though the rounds had cannellures I had one round develop bullet setback when the bolt tried to chamber it into a stuck case. [the stuck case was a result of carbon buildup from having fired a number of rounds of Wolf ammo which tend to allow gas leakage within the chamber area] These rounds were purchased new off the shelf from Bass Pro and all were NATO headstamped with either 05 or 06. I will continue to purchase this ammo (when I can find it again ). Seemed to be accurate and had more kick than Wolf (which simply bears out all the info here on the forum and in print). Skunkum Purchased 1,000 rds 62 grain SS-109 (steel penetrator) IMI mixed years' headstamps (Stamped as TZZ, dated 1995 to 2002) from the "scratch and dent loose ammo pile" in April, 2006. Have fired about 1/3 of them and have put another 1/3 on stripper clips. Have had only one that we have classified as do-not-atempt-to-fire, due to twisted case and obvious bend. Maybe two did not feed the first time through, we classified these as operator error since we were learning the tricks on a new Rock River Arms CAR M-4 16" kit rifle (on a new RRA lower). These were both the top cartridges of the magazines they were in and we believe that we did not get the mag properly inserted, hardly the ammo's fault! When replaced into the middle of a different magazine they both fired properly. This military brass seems to be heavier than commercial (as it should be) and we plan to reload it after removing the crimps. Note: There were numerous cartridges with light scratches and/or small dents, mostly in the wide area at the top of the case, just at the bottom of where it starts to flare in for the neck. That's why I got a bargain price from the "scratch and dent pile"! Hemi-Cuda Gun: 20" 1/9 Bushmaster Ammo: IMI M193 60-90 rounds, was given by a buddy to test the ammo. I was incredibly impressed by its performance. It fed extremely well, and fired very, very accurately. Although I do not have too much experience with this ammo, I would sure as hell gives a thumbs up. Conspiro-Agnew Only problem I ever thought I had with this ammo ended up being a mag related problem. I've shot a couple of thousand rounds of this ammo and have never had any problems. Thumbtack I shot a couple boxes out of a 11.5"/5.5FS Bushmaster. Not a single problem. I like it so much I just picked up 2K more rounds of it. glockman19 Along withthe other Winchester 3131 ammo i have had good experiences shooting this through my AR-15 and mini-14. Approx. 1,200 rounds no issues. Only difficulti is getting it now. |

16" POF P415 16" Bushmaster HBAR 14.5" Bushmaster Izzy The POF and the 16" Bushy belong to me and had many, many blown primers with the 3131A. Neither gun had ever had a problem before with 5.56x45 nato ammo. Approximately 2500 rounds thru each gun. Discontinued the Q3131a after about 90 rounds and switched to Privi m193 with no further issues. Fired remaining Q3131a thru the 14.5" Bushmaster with no issues. This gun belongs to my friend and is new and had less than 500 rounds at this point. I will not be using any more 3131A. |
